Cumnor House Sussex is looking for an inspirational and highly motivated Art Assistant to join our Art Department. Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

 Overarching responsibilities: In this role you will assist the Head of Art and Ceramics, preparing and assembling routine art materials, supporting the Head of Art with various tasks.

 · Provision of support to the teaching staff in facilitating the requirements for their work

· Preparation of materials from Art stock as directed and clearing away equipment

· Assistance to teaching staff with demonstrations and practical lessons

· Oversight of specialized teaching areas, stores and/or preparation room and arrangements for maintenance and repair services to equipment and working surfaces

· Ability to lead break-time or lunch time art clubs and enable meaningful interactions with the art department.

 

Administration

·  Maintenance of stock and breakage records, catalogues, user manuals and borrow book

·  Ordering, receiving and accounting for new stock and equipment

 

Resources

Assist with the development of resources by:

 · Making exemplars occasionally

·  Maintaining equipment to a high standard for optimum creative results

·  Prepare and make teaching aids as required working on own initiative

 

Health, Safety and Security

Tool maintenance – familiarisation with competence in:

·  Routine maintenance of frames, printing presses, displays and working areas

·  Routine maintenance and up keep of art room equipment and tools

·  Ensuring compliance of Health and Safety at Work

·  To provide First Aid where necessary (training to be provided if not qualified)

·  Assisting in the maintenance of safety standards in the Art department


Support to School

·  Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

·  Be aware of, support and ensure equal opportunities for all

·  Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

·  Appreciate and support the role of other professionals

·  Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required

·  Assisting in the organisation of trips and extra-curricular activities

·  Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required

· Assist with pupil needs as appropriate during the school day

· Support teaching staff as necessary in the lead up scholarship application and to assist putting up an Art Exhibition at the end of the year

· Prepare and maintain display boards in the department and around the school

· To be able to communicate with parents if they would like to come into school to collect artwork

· Refill printers with paper and replace cartridges as required

· Assist pupils with basic computer work and printing

· Attend Open Days &/or Exhibition once a year if required

 

Performance Management

· Participating in the Cumnor’s arrangements for performance management, professional development and the school’s arrangements for quality assurance and internal verification

· Attend relevant CPD opportunities

 

General Responsibilities

· To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as the Headmaster may from time to time reasonably determine

Desirable Personal Qualities and Experience:

Essential

· 5 GCSE C or above or equivalent

· Commitment to on-going personal professional development

· General technical/resource support.

· Dealing with confidential issues

· Dealing with people on a face to face basis

· Able to work well in a team

· Good interpersonal and communication skills

· Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and others

· Effective use of ICT skills

· Good administrative skills

· Ability to keep matters confidential

· A flexible attitude to work

· Ability to work under pressure and deadlines

· Able to use basic technology – i.e. computer, video, photocopier

· Creative flair, appreciation and keen interest in art and all things creative

· Literate

· Numerate

· Good Sense of Humour

· Keen eye for detail and detail


Desirable

· NVQ 2 or equivalent in a relevant qualification

· Art & Design A level min. (or related subject)

· Working with children either paid or voluntary.

· Machine safety certificate

· Experience in a design or technology based job/course e.g. CAD/CAM

· Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation

· Caring and sympathetic attitude

 

Hours of Work and Pay

Three days a week, 08.30 to 15.30 during term time with 30 minute lunch each day (unpaid) 21 hours per week. There is some flexibility around days of the week. This is a term time only contract, 34 weeks. 

Salary: FTE £25,000, pro rata £11,423
