Job overview

Relocation assistance available

We are looking for a dynamic teacher who is excited by the prospect of contributing to an evolving curriculum. Engineering, Enterprise and Technology (EET) is designed around the pedagogy of project-based learning with the aim to capture the imagination of our girls and make engineering interesting, engaging and accessible.

Being a practical subject EET is taught in class sizes of 12-14 in Years 7-9. In Years 10-11 girls continuing with the subject explore and stretch their technical creativity by building artefacts which they manage using project management methodologies.

The practical skill set of the appointee (electronics, programming and mechanical design) naturally resonates with the ‘Systems and Control’ specification of Design Technology. However, the ability to communicate technical material in an accessible way, which keeps pupils engaged, is prioritised above technical skill. The successful applicant will be supported by the Head of EET through regular meetings to ensure that any potential skills gaps are identified and appropriate training given. This will also allow the appointee to contribute to on-going revisions to the Schemes of Work. While primarily an EET teacher, there may also be the opportunity for the appointee to teach Physics.

All teachers are expected to contribute to the rich co-curricular life of the College, but there are no residential duties.

As one of the world’s leading schools, and with a strong pioneering heritage, our aim is to embody excellence, independence and empowerment in the education of young women. You will join a friendly and supportive community of committed professionals who believe that girls are at the heart of all we do. We are ambitious for their futures, collectively and individually, and have been so for over 160 years.

Applications are welcome from teachers in the independent or maintained sector, those without prior teaching experience with technical industrial experience or those with a background in academic research.

"Girls enrolling in College are highly likely to see in the turn of the next century, living lives of unprecedented longevity. Their world will be full of promise, choice and possibility on a scale that has not been true for any generation of women that has preceded them.

“Leading this energetic, talented and caring community of staff and pupils is an extraordinary privilege. We have a unique and inspiring pioneering heritage which we cherish, and we have a very exciting future. We would love you to be a part of it.”

Eve Jardine-Young, Principal

College first opened its doors in February 1854 with the purpose of providing girls with a thorough academic education. We have remained committed to that pioneering goal, while adapting to a complex and changing world. Today we are one of the largest school communities of boarding and day girls in Europe, allowing us to provide a rich holistic curriculum. Approximately 850 pupils from 40 countries across the world benefit from the knowledge and expertise gained over the last 160 years of putting girls first.

Our motivated and able pupils genuinely want to learn, and consistently achieve results at the very highest level in GCSE, A Level, Pre-U and IB examinations. For the teachers who can nurture such achievement, we offer excellent resources, professional support and personal development. In addition, we have a dedicated team that manages evening and weekend boarding duties, so you can focus on what you do best: inspiring your classes.

You can also look forward to a wonderful working environment right at the heart of Cheltenham. Described as the cultural centre of the Cotswolds, this elegant and thriving town offers excellent transport links to the South West or Midlands, with the M5 in easy reach. London can be reached in two hours, and Cheltenham’s mainline rail station provides rapid and frequent connections with the rest of the UK.

We believe that there are few better places to live and work – and no better setting within which ambitious teachers can make a positive impact on their pupils’ lives.
