Job overview

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Chinese to join our successful Modern Foreign Languages department for September 2023 for 3 days a week. The department has a proven track record of embracing innovative approaches to teaching and learning, offers Chinese Mandarin, French, German and Spanish to A Level. We also offer Italian and Latin to KS3.

 Beths Grammar School is a Confucius Classroom School and one of the highest performing MEP (Mandarin Excellence Programme) in the country. Chinese is popular in the curriculum and we previously delivered Cambridge Pre-U and AQA GCSE Chinese as well as HSK examinations. We will be moving forward with A level Edexcel Chinese.

 If you are a fluent Mandarin speaker with excellent communication skills in both English and Mandarin and can teach to A Level standard, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing the MEP and improving students' Mandarin listening and speaking skills at one of the UK’s leading schools.

 The successful applicant will:

· be an innovative and inspirational teacher,

·have the ability to plan and deliver lessons which fulfil appropriate learning objectives,

·have an enthusiasm for Chinese in general and the ability to transmit this to students,

·have the ability to create your own resources and willingness to share good practice with other colleagues.

 Requirements of the Post

  •  to contribute to the teaching of languages across the age and ability range as specified above
  • to be a Form Tutor (not all NQTs are form tutors)
  • to work within and contribute to established School and Department frameworks for:
  1. lesson planning and delivery
  2. student behaviour and care
  3. student assessment
  • to work within the school framework with regard to Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies
  • to provide accurate information for parents as required by the School and Department policy and attend parents’ evening/academic tutoring interviews and other presentation meetings as reasonably directed
  • to promote a single school ethos
  • to promote the school commitment to the Continual Professional Development of all staff
  • to undertake any duties as may reasonably be required by the Headteacher.
