Job overview

Winner of an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award for 2015, The Macclesfield Academy is a successful and expanding 11-16 school serving a diverse community in South Macclesfield.    The Academy opened in 2011 with a mission to make a distinctive contribution to the provision of secondary education in Macclesfield by becoming an outstanding small school characterised by:

• a welcoming community,

• a personalised curriculum and

• an enriched experience for all our students.

The Academy has become the school of choice for many Macclesfield families and was oversubscribed in 2016 and 2017.  We expect this to be the case once again in 2018 as our numbers continue to rise to a targeted maximum of 600.  95% of our parents say that they would recommend the Macclesfield Academy to a friend.

We require as soon as possible:

a high quality part-time (0.5 approx) MFL (French and/or Spanish) teacher who is fully committed to the aims and values of the Academy.  .  It is essential that the person we appoint can teach either French or Spanish to GCSE.  MFL has an established track record of successfully recruiting students for Key Stage 4 languages and we expect, to have four GCSE groups in Year 9 next year as well as three in Year 10.  Currently the teaching for this post is spread over four days each week.  We recognise this would not suit everyone and a larger contract fraction may be available to a colleague willing and able to fill the four days with supply work or to contribute elsewhere in the curriculum.  We believe this post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced or a newly qualified colleague looking to join a friendly and successful team.

Our Subject Leaders for MFL, Mrs Sally Burgess and Mrs Janet Frank, will be happy to answer any questions you may have. They can be contacted on sally.burgess@macclesfieldacademy.org or janet.frank@macclesfieldacademy.org .

We expect to make a permanent appointment.  However, we may appoint for one year in the first instance pending a further review of our curriculum needs.

Our pay policy makes it clear that we do not automatically replicate the salaries that teachers have earned in previous posts and we expect to appoint to M1-M6 in the first instance.  However, in the case of a teacher with a proven track record of exam success or other exceptional qualities, we would be prepared to appoint onto the Upper Pay Spine.

Further details are available on the Academy website at www.macclesfieldacademy.org.

Application is by the Academy or TES standard application form and should include a supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the requirements for the post.  The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 11th November 2019.  Applications for this post must be made using the appropriate forms and sent by email only to:  TMArecruitment@macclesfieldacademy.org.  Curricula vitae or open testimonials will not be considered.
