Join Portland Place; an independent Secondary School – A Haven of Creativity

Portland Place School is a leading independent co-educational day school for children aged 10-16, located directly in the heart of the City of Westminster. It was founded with a particular purpose in mind: to be an alternative to the intense, large, examination focused independent day schools of which there are many in London.

Part of the Alpha Plus family of schools, Portland Place offers rigorous and tailored career professional development to meet the needs of staff progression, a diverse and experienced group of teachers who share their pedagogical practice and first class teaching & learning and pastoral care for students. With a recent change in Headship, Portland Place School is undergoing a transformation in our approach to learning.  Our aim is to provide a real-life education where children are adaptable, empathetic and are prepared for the 21st Century job market.

The Sports department at Portland Place is a team of 5 teachers providing off-site PE lessons and sports at a range of facilities in the London locality. GCSE PE is taught alongside core PE which figures prominently in the timetable, with over 6 hours scheduled per week in the lower school. Extra-curricular sports clubs and trips are integral to the departments’ provision, as well as a wide array of inter-house sport and inter-school fixtures. This includes accessing opportunities to compete from the local borough of Westminster as well as the ISA sports events. Club links are promoted in line with the school’s Strive Programme.

The school is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled teacher to deliver core PE at key stages 2, 3 & 4 with the possibility to teach GCSE PE. Full involvement in all aspects of extra-curricular sport is expected including after-school clubs, fixtures and participation in trips and tours. The position is part-time (0.6 FTE). The successful applicant should have experience in teaching netball, gymnastics and dance as well as being confident in all areas of a normal sports curriculum, as well as teaching mixed gender and ability groups.

The post is suitable for an NQT or experienced teacher for whom the school provides the ISTIP route. The salary will be in line with mainstream sector but in the Alpha Plus Scale.

If you are interested in applying, please complete an application form via the Alpha Plus Careers website. For further information about the post, please contact Laura Young on 020 7307 8700
