London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (2021 Sunday Times Sixth Form College of the year) is recruiting a Maths Teaching Fellow to join the team working on the school’s exciting outreach project, Chrysalis East, with a particular desire to recruit candidates from the school's local area. The role is for a fixed term of one academic year 2024-25 and would suit a recent graduate with an interest in working in education and outreach. 

Chrysalis East aims to reduce inequalities in progression to highly-selective universities for students across Tottenham. Working in partnership across a network of local schools, this new programme includes academic enrichment, intervention, university preparation and careers guidance. 

The role combines providing subject specialist interventions and personalised guidance, and supporting with a range of outreach and enrichment activities for our local partner secondary and primary schools. The Chrysalis East team consists of five subject-specialist teachers, two careers professionals and now a team of Teaching Fellows, and together is responsible for designing and delivering innovative and inspiring sessions that achieve the mission of raising attainment and increasing the number of Tottenham students progressing to competitive universities. While the team is based at LAE Tottenham, the majority of our work will take place across the partner schools

Working hours

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8.00am-5.00pm (Part-time, to be discussed and agreed)

Term-time plus four weeks (41 working weeks)

Key responsibilities

● To provide academic intervention for students studying Maths from years 7-13 across four secondary schools and our Sixth Form.

● To deliver enrichment sessions in our partner schools to encourage students’ subject interest.

● To champion the purpose of university and encourage students in our four Tottenham secondary schools to explore their future career and university options.

● To work as part of the Chrysalis East team delivering university and careers events and summer schools.

Specific tasks

● To work with Chrysalis East Partnership teachers supporting delivery of Maths support to Key Stage 4 students.

● To teach small groups of Year 7 to 11 students outside the classroom, supporting them to achieve their full academic potential.

● To plan and deliver subject enrichment clubs in our partner schools to deepen subject knowledge and stretch pupils’ thinking

● To deliver a measurable impact on pupils and students receiving academic support.

● To model to all students the habits that make effective and academically rigorous learners.

● To create a challenging, but also caring and nurturing, learning environment.

● Some one-to-one work with A-level students in order to improve and develop their understanding and subject knowledge.

● To provide in-class support for Maths to support and extend learning.

● To actively reflect on practice and welcome feedback from colleagues.

● To support departmental extension and Oxbridge preparation sessions linked to your area of subject specialism.

● To support the core team with programme planning, communications and impact measurement
