Job overview

The Governors of Joseph Norton Academy would like to invite applications from enthusiastic, team players to the position of Pastoral Care Worker (PCW).

As a PCW, you will work as part of the school’s Social Conduct Team helping to promote, develop and maintain behaviour for learning throughout the school. You will support pupils to develop resilience, social skills and self-esteem and use effective strategies such as restorative practice to support pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. 

You will have the ability to inspire and engage pupils in personal development activities and interventions, and will possess the interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with children and their families, colleagues and other professionals.

This position may suit candidates who hope to develop or a career within the Special Education Sector. College/University graduates are welcome to apply as full training will be offered.  Joseph Norton Academy is part of Wellspring Academy Trust and is able to offer a career path for aspiring teachers.

Part of Wellspring Multi Academy Trust, Joseph Norton Academy is the only special school in Kirklees catering for pupils in Key Stages 2-4 with severe and complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).  

Joseph Norton Academy is the same as any other school in that we have high expectations of our pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively; and offer a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs.  However, we are different to other schools in that we organise our pupils into nurture groups; structure our day and our curriculum to support pupils with SEMH difficulties; and employ specialist staff to support the special educational needs of our pupils.
