Job overview

We are looking for a qualified teacher to join Harris Academy Merton as a Pastoral Coordinator. You will work within the Academy supporting and encouraging students to achieve their best, but strive to do better.   

You will join an open and supportive team in establishing outstanding provision. This will include all programmes, systems and structures taking account of the Academy’s vision and values leading to outstanding teaching and learning.

Main Areas of Responsibility

The main areas of your responsibility will be:

Behaviour

  • Support in implementing the consistent application of the behaviour and rewards policy and any relevant policies related to pupil behaviour to ensure high standards of behaviour and expectations in your pastoral group.
  • To actively implement the uniform policy with the ALT-lead and take daily firm and consistent action to ensure that pupils wear appropriate uniform at all times.
  • To promote excellent standards of pupil behaviour

Safeguarding

  • To make referrals to the Safeguarding Team in person/via CPOMS for pupils regarding concerns about their safety/wellbeing.
  • Work with the Safeguarding Team and ALT-lead to support students feeling safe in the academy in line with academy guidance.
  • Work with the Safeguarding Team and ALT-lead to ensure vulnerable students receive the internal and external support required when needed.

Attendance

  • To support in using sanctions, praise, rewards and interventions to ensure 95% attendance in your pastoral group.
  • To support the work of the ALT-lead and Attendance Officer to ensure that pupils’ attendance is improving and meeting expectation
  • To support in following the academy attendance policy and escalation policy in regard to attendance of students in your pastoral group

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, and, ideally, further qualifications and evidence of continuous self-development and updated knowledge in relevant areas
  • Have a minimum of three years' teaching experience, preferably in multi-ethnic urban schools
  • Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning
  • Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3, KS4, and KS5
  • Have experience of delivering high quality INSET to teaching staff and of using coaching as a model for ensuring ongoing professional development
  • Ideally, be able to show evidence of leading, supporting and managing others, both individuals and teams
  • Be able to prove their success in raising achievement as a subject leader or classroom practitioner
  • Have successful experience of processes of monitoring, evaluation and review that provide performance data that can be used to improve the quality of teaching and learning
  • Have a good level of ICT skills and experience of how new technologies can be used to raise achievement
  • Have experience of embedding innovative strategies for improving teaching and learning and of managing and implementing change successfully

Harris Academy Merton is an 11-18 co-educational Academy for 1,500 students. The Academy opened in September 2006 on the site of the predecessor school. The Academy benefits from a brand new state-of-the-art Post 16 block and high quality buildings. Harris Merton is judged by Ofsted to be an Outstanding School. Harris Merton offers specialisms in Enterprise and Science. It is an oversubscribed school at the heart of its local community.
