Job overview

We are delighted to seek to recruit two new members of the Senior Management Team at St Mary’s School Ascot. Applicants are welcome to apply for one or both posts.

St Mary’s Ascot is a happy, busy and energetic full boarding school with an excellent reputation for pastoral care and academic success. We are looking for committed, creative and dynamic candidates to join our collaborative and forward-thinking senior team.

The Pastoral Deputy Head is responsible to the Headmistress for the management and development of boarding and pastoral care. She is assisted by a Senior Boarding Mistress and works with a team of experienced Heads of House to ensure the highest standards of pastoral care for our pupils. This post has arisen following the promotion of our current Pastoral Deputy Head.

Candidates are likely to have a professional background in teaching at senior level, in pastoral care and boarding, and will have strong communication skills. They will be highly organised and strategic, and will have the presence and good humour to gain the confidence of pupils, parents, staff and governors.

An essential requirement of the post is to live on site and a four-bedroom house is offered free of charge in the heart of the school grounds. Teaching will be offered on a very reduced timetable and any subject will be considered. There is an occupational requirement for this appointment to be filled by a woman.

See also our advertisement for Director of Co-Curricular. Candidates are welcome to apply to one or both posts to join our Senior Management Team.

Further details of these posts and application forms are available from: Mrs Nicola MacRobbie, Tel: 01344 296710 E-mail: recruitment@st-marys-ascot.co.uk

A letter of application, a completed application form and the names, addresses and telephone numbers of three referees should be sent by Monday 14 January 2019 to Mrs Danuta Staunton, Headmistress Elect, St Mary’s School, St Mary’s Road, Ascot SL5 9JF.

First interviews will be held at the school on Thursday 24 January 2019. Second interviews will take place on Wednesday 30 January 2019.

Details of the school can be found on our school website.

St Mary’s School Ascot is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the ethos and values of the school. We welcome applications from practising Roman Catholics but all suitable candidates will be considered.

St Mary's School Ascot is a leading Roman Catholic girls' boarding school set in 55 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of Berkshire. We are a friendly, stable and caring community, proud of our academic and sporting achievements and dedicated to bringing out the full potential of each of our 390 pupils. There are 120 pupils in the sixth form. We are committed to full boarding, with spaces for a few day pupils living nearby. We offer a stimulating range of co-curricular activities which take place in the evenings and throughout the weekend.

St Mary’s has a strong reputation as an academic school within the Catholic tradition. Entry to the school is selective. All pupils are expected to take 9 or 10 GCSEs, and almost all stay on for the Sixth Form to pursue their A Levels. Our leavers invariably go on to higher education, the vast majority to Russell Group universities or similar, including 10-15% to Oxbridge.
