Job overview

Come and join us in the heart of Scandinavia, enjoy a high quality of life and develop your school leadership profile. We are searching for middle managers looking to take their next step into a senior pastoral leadership role. After one year you will be fast tracked to a leadership position in one of our 30 schools across Sweden.

In this role you will lead the school forward on pastoral affairs. You will build upon and implement behaviour and welfare systems in the school, enabling teachers to teach and students to learn.

You must have QTS with recent teaching experience, as well as management responsibilities. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and positive role model, with the ability to inspire both students and staff. You have experience of an inner city school and thrive when working with students with international backgrounds.

We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, focused and resilient to the day-to-day pressures that working in education can bring. The successful candidate is a highly committed team player with drive, energy and passion, who inspires a love of learning within their students. You must be mobile within Sweden as it is likely that after the first year you will be placed in a different school.

Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) is a highly successful school group in Sweden with students receiving high grades and a diverse and energetic staff. We have around 20, 000 students enrolled in our 30 schools across the country with approximately 2,300 members of staff. Our schools are bilingual with 50% of teaching in Swedish and 50% in English.

IES provides an international and stimulating environment, where commitment, professionalism and the English language are common denominators. We work in an environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.

To apply, please email your C.V and a cover letter, describing why you are interested in working in Sweden, to recruitment@engelska.se by April 12th with the reference SLP17. Suitable candidates will be contacted for interviews to be held via Skype.

About Internationella Engelska Skolan Karlstad

Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) is a leading independent school group "friskola" with academic results far above average and a diverse and energetic staff. Teaching is through both Swedish and English, with English the language of the corridors. IES is one of Sweden's largest school groups at "Grundskolan" (i.e. for students ages 10 to 16) with 30 schools and over 21,500 students across the country. IES has grown steadily and maintained quality since 1993.

Our schools are places where teachers can teach and students can learn. This is possible because of the strong emphasis Internationella Engelska Skolan places on creating a safe and calm environment which is conducive to teaching and learning. That environment helps everyone to concentrate on their lessons.

To excel in our environment we think you will be:

Internationally minded: You will be working with and learning from colleagues who have different training and experiences from around the world. Students may not have English (or Swedish) as their first language and you will need to adapt your teaching methods to reach every student.

Passionate about your subject: You want to inspire your students to love your subjects as much as you do.

Enthusiastic about teaching and learning: You share our conviction that every student can realise their potential.

Flexible: You are willing to adapt and embrace new challenges.
