Job overview

Aspire Academy Bexley, Endeavour Academy Bexley and Horizons Academy Bexley are all part of the New Horizons Hub which provides a continuum of education, and support and guidance for pupils in Bexley and beyond whose needs are not best met in a mainstream school.  We work closely with local stakeholders including primary and secondary schools in Bexley and the Local Authority as well as a wide range of support agencies to ensure that we can deliver the best education, interventions and opportunities for our pupils.  Our offer is not only in our schools but beyond them in supporting pupils at risk of exclusion in the local community.  Our aspirations are high for all of our children and young people and we believe in inclusion in the widest sense.  Our ethos is of engagement and positive participation, a message we communicate to pupils, our staff and our stakeholders. “For further information about the schools please visit the website: www.newhorizonsfederation.org.uk

We are seeking to appoint a Pastoral Support Co-ordinator as part of the New Horizons Federation Inclusion Team. As a new addition to the London South East Academies Trust, we have three successful schools deemed either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’; Endeavour Academy, Horizons Academy and Aspire. As a Pastoral Support Co-ordinator you will be driven to improve student attendance and address safeguarding concerns in order to ensure students are able to engage, achieve and be fulfilled. The successful candidate will support the Designated Leads in continuing to safeguard the most hard to reach and vulnerable students within the local area, whilst working in partnership with a wide audience to maintain regular attendance and punctuality including the Attendance Intervention Worker and Careers & Transition staff. This is an opportunity for a passionate, skilled practitioner to join a team with solid standards and high expectations.

We will provide an environment for a skilled practitioner to use their skills and experience to tackle non-engagement and wellbeing concerns. Your resilience, professionalism and systems-led approach will consistently drive forward New Horizons visions, where students are at the heart of our daily practice. High aspirations and a relentless approach towards excellence are embraced. If you have these skills and are enthusiastic and committed, we would welcome your application

About Horizons Academy Bexley

Horizons provides high quality support to pupils in Key Stages 1–4 who have been permanently excluded (or are at risk of exclusion) from mainstream school.

We focus on early intervention, offering a range of services from short term respite to longer term education for students in KS4. Our expert team works intensively with post-16 pupils to secure destinations whilst providing ongoing support. This helps ensure that all pupils can maintain their educational placements, training programmes and/or employment.

Our aim in Key Stages 1–3 is to re-integrate pupils back into a mainstream or specialist school via our ‘Refocus programme’. We work closely with external agencies and our partner schools to identify the needs of the child and develop the child’s own ability to learn, so that they feel confident about being in the classroom.

We have created an environment and developed a curriculum which supports our pupils to become well rounded citizens and able to productively contribute to the community. We want all our young people to feel confident about their future and in their own ability to live a successful, meaningful life.
