Job overview

Hylands School.

We are part of TKAT, a charitable trust that is inspiring learners and changing lives across 45 schools in the South and East of England.

We pride ourselves on providing excellent pastoral care at Hylands so that every child can thrive and achieve the best possible outcomes. We have recently developed the Ambition Champion Programme to provide a champion for every disadvantaged child, to solve ‘life’ barriers to learning and engagement.  The overarching aim being to close the gaps between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. As such we are expanding our pastoral team and we are looking to appoint a Pastoral Support Manager (PSM).

PSMs manage behaviour, welfare and academic achievement of students within a designated year group. Working closely with students, parents and staff in setting high standards in all aspects of pupil behaviour, attitude and learning culture.

The role requires someone who is experienced in working with behaviour with energy, enthusiasm, a calm manner, the ability to prioritise and a flexible working approach. They will be approachable, have sound people skills, strong written and verbal communication together with a ‘can do’ attitude.  The post holder will act as a vital part of our fantastic pastoral team.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and their achievements both inside and outside school. The post requires enhanced DBS clearance, medical checks and satisfactory references.

The school is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of any protected characteristic for example race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit. This includes applications from individuals wishing to work full time, part-time or on a flexible basis

Hylands School is a mixed secondary school, with a small sixth form, for pupils aged 11-18. Located in Chelmsford, Essex, it converted to an academy in 2011 and is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust.

Hylands School’s sixth form provides students with opportunities to study a range of A-levels and BTECs, and to join a vibrant community where taking on new responsibilities contributes to social and personal development.

In 2016, Hylands School was placed in the top 100 schools for sustained improvement. Rising GCSE results in 2014 and 2015 were achieved through a culture of determination and resilience among all the staff and students. The school aims to continue this trend onwards and upwards.
