University Technical College Swindon is a 152-pupil secondary school with a sixth form. Situated in Swindon, has been educating students, aged between 14 and 19, since it opened in 2014. The school is based in a £11 million building in Wiltshire.

Principal

Angela Barker-Dench

Values and Vision

The students are taught the national curriculum by participating in practical group tasks during lessons. The aim is for pupils to learn how to behave in a professional manner in a workplace environment. They are given problem solving tasks where cooperation is key. Students are encouraged to be respectful, optimistic and tolerant while at the school. Businesses help pupils understand terms such as performance management and gain an understanding of finance in a company. Children are expected to work hard and get exceptional results in their exams. But they are also encouraged to enjoy their time at the school. UTC Swindon focusses on helping pupils to become engineers. Teachers support and nurture the students to prepare them for life after school. Pupils should also take advantage of every opportunity the school and businesses have to offer. They are likely to get into university, get a career or an apprenticeship.

Ofsted report

“Pupils behave well in lessons and around the site. Pupils are well looked after, including the high proportion who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. When they are given the opportunity, pupils use the extensive range of specialist equipment confidently and safely. The positive difference in pupils’ attitude to learning in practical sessions is palpable.”
