Main job Purpose:

To provide a high quality of care, support, advice and guidance to students in line with academy expectations. The post holder will promote students’ academic achievements, alongside their social and personal development with a focus on the day-to-day welfare and pastoral needs of students to better support their learning. They will work to reduce and help students overcome the social and emotional barriers to learning with a particular emphasis on our most vulnerable students. Mentoring targeted students will form part of the role as to encourage students to take personal responsibility for their actions and make positive, well-informed choices. The post holder will work closely with the inclusion team to identify appropriate support for targeted, vulnerable and at risk students. They will liaise with external agencies, parents, teachers and the Senior Leadership Team within the academy.

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • To establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with individual pupils and groups in support of pupils learning, welfare and personal development.
  • Promote inclusion of SEND and SEMH students within academy.
  • To assist the behaviour support team and encourage students’ positive attitudes to learning and general behaviour around school and within the local community.
  • To liaise with individual teachers and departments in relation to the behaviour, attendance and progress of individuals and groups of students as directed by the Head of Behaviour Support. 
  • To accurately record incidents using the school’s information systems and keep records of incidents dealt with in a timely manner and in adherence to academy safeguarding protocols.
  • Act as a role model and set high standards and expectations of conduct and behaviour.
  • Provide administrative support to the inclusion team, including production of reports on individuals and groups of students. 
  • The post holder must be able to use their initiative, have excellent interpersonal skills and record keeping whilst working as part of a multi-skilled team of professionals. They must actively promote positive values and good conduct; dealing promptly with incidents in accordance with school policy.
  • Attend relevant school meetings as required.

Purpose:

  • To provide high quality care for all students 
  • To support and guide all students in their personal development 
  • To ensure high standards of behaviour across all year groups
  • To play a full role in the management of behaviour in the school 
  • To supervise whole school sanctions such as detention and isolation as part of pastoral duties 
  • To investigate incidents of poor behavior as they arise or as directed 
  • To keep up-to-date records of students behaviour, actions taken and parental meetings using the school’s information management systems 
  • To contact and meet with parents where appropriate  
  • To support the Inclusion Team in organising, managing, supervising and evaluating pastoral events during the course of the academic year  
  • To work with the Inclusion Team to identify appropriate support for targeted, vulnerable and at risk students  
  • To work with external agencies to organise the most appropriate provision for targeted, vulnerable and at risk students  

Other Duties:

  • To continue personal development as agreed at appraisal
  • To engage actively in the performance review process
  • To address the appraisal targets set by the line manager each Autumn Term
  • To play a full part in the life of the Academy community, to support its distinctive aim and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example
  • To promote actively the Academy’s corporate policies
  • To comply with the Academy’s Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
  • To show a record of excellent attendance and punctuality. 
  • To adhere to the Academy’s Dress Code Participate in relevant training and development opportunities as required. 
  • Support the school’s fire and emergency procedures by being familiar with the instructions for staff and students, located in all of the teaching areas, and take appropriate action should the need arise. 
  • Retain the confidentiality of all aspects of school life. 
  • Comply with all decisions, policies and standing orders of the school and Aspirations Academies Trust; comply with any relevant statutory requirements, including Equal Opportunities legislation, the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Data Protection Act. 
  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection and all aspects of safeguarding children. 
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required appropriate for the level of the post
