We are looking for a PE Teacher to join our outstanding school as we grow into our sixth year. William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has five year groups (7 - 11) totalling almost 1,000 students. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants.
The school offers outstanding opportunities for professional development and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive teaching team comprising both PE teachers and specialist sports coaches. The new postholder will take a proactive role in the teaching and delivery of PE and sport within the school; there may also be an opportunity to teach a second subject (ebacc).
Students have a 100-minute ‘Core Elective’ session each week where they have additional time to learn new skills and apply them in full game situations. This 100-minute lesson along with many ‘extended elective’ sessions after school has helped create an outstanding offer of sport at William Perkin. The curriculum and assessment frameworks are stored on our VLE system to ensure that all materials are accessible for students and staff. The curriculum is three tiered and within each tier we use differentiated outcomes for each lesson to ensure effective differentiation at classroom level.
The school has outstanding facilities including a full size floodlit 3G astroturf, 3 Netball court floodlit MUGA, 4 badminton court sports hall, along with grass pitches and a cricket square. The next phase of development is due shortly after the very successful opening of the 3G Astroturf and sports pavilion this year, in partnership with the FA and a range of football clubs including Arsenal, Brentford and QPR. Phase 2 is a State School Cricket Hub development in partnership with Middlesex CCC.
This represents an unusually interesting opportunity for a teacher with relevant experience to join an already successful team, in a new school, at a very exciting time in its development. The new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth and the organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – is due to open in temporary accommodation (on the William Perkin site) in September 2018.
