Job overview

BRIGHTON COLLEGE AL AIN (UAE) JUNIOR SCHOOL

The Junior School at Brighton College Al Ain provides outstanding care and education for young children, from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 5.

Due to the full return of Physical Education and Extra-Curricular Sport at the College we now have an opportunity for an additional Physical Education teacher within our Junior School team to start as soon as possible.

Applications are warmly welcomed from excellent primary Physical Education teachers who hold a relevant degree, at least two years of teaching experience and have a very clear understanding of the characteristics of outstanding teaching and learning within the subject.

We are seeking inspiring teachers who love working with young children, demonstrative positivity and an excellent team spirit, and who consistently deliver high quality lessons. We are looking for PE teachers who have a commitment to excellence in delivery, specialism in primary school and ideally experience in swimming, football, netball or athletics.

Reporting to the Head of Junior School PE and ultimately the Director of Sport, this role is crucial to the development of our Junior School pupils and therefore specific experience of working with junior pupils in an international environment is desirable, as is experience of working with pupils for whom English is not their first language.

All our PE staff are fully committed to providing a comprehensive extra-curricular programme and this would be an expectation of anyone joining the department. Extra-Curricular sport takes place most afternoons in a wide range of activities, including fixtures against other local schools.

All pupils in BCAA’s Junior School have one swimming lesson a week and therefore confidence in teaching swimming is an essential requirement. A swimming qualification and willingness to lead on aspects of swimming in the Junior School would be desirable.

Should you be successful in your application, you will join a highly committed, dynamic and supportive teaching team, which aspires to excellence in all we do. The PE department consists of 8 teachers and a full time life guard and there is an expectation on all members of the department to support across all phases, so some experience of working with Middle School pupils would be desirable.

The department has access to outstanding facilities, including football pitches, athletics track, covered swimming pool and numerous outdoor covered spaces. We are also fortunate to have dedicated Junior School PE facilities including a brand new sports hall. There is a comprehensive development plan to drive the provision of sport and physical activity forwards and any appointee would be expected to contribute fully to this plan. Career development is an important focus for the Director of Sport and you will be supported in enhancing your skillset and experience during your time in the school.

To apply, please complete the application form on the TES webpage where this vacancy appears. You must also attach an up-to-date CV with a covering letter and photograph.

For further information or queries, please contact the Head Master, Mr Simon Corns, via his PA, Mrs Shelly Thaxter, at sthaxter@brightoncollegealain.ae.

The closing date for applications is 7th November 2021 but interviews will be arranged as applications are received. The College reserves the right to appoint successful candidates prior to the closing date and so an early application is advantageous.

SAFEGUARDING

Brighton College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils and expect all employees to share this commitment. All applications should read the College’s child protection policy, which is available on our website, and are required to declare any information as requested on the application form. An ACRO check and/or a local police certificate will be requested for the successful candidate.
