Job overview

The Physical Education Department prides itself on its high standards and the expectations it has of all of our students. The team works closely sharing ideas and strategies to deliver a wide range of courses and providing a comprehensive programme for all students.

If successful, you  will be expected to deliver dynamic lessons that stretch and challenge your classes and encourage a passion for the subject. You will have a vision of how new ideas enable students to excel and realise their own true potential, using numerous teaching and learning platforms. The ability to use differentiation in delivery to further develop and engage students across the different courses will be vital.

Results have historically been very strong in the department.  Outcomes from the vocational courses at level 2 and 3 are consistently above national benchmarks.  Pass rates at A level are good.

The courses currently being delivered by the subject area are A level Physical Education [EDUQAS] BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Excellence and BTEC Level 2 in Sport. There are currently some 100 students enrolled on the various courses most of whom will progress to the next level internally or onto higher education.

The subject area is housed in a £6.3 million sports/IT building. It benefits from designated classrooms, a large multi-purpose sports hall, an industry standard fitness gym and an adjoining external multi-use area.

The subject area is committed to providing extensive opportunities for all students to participate in sport at all levels. It is expected that new appointments would be fully committed to extra-curricular sports classes and enrichment activities. The college runs several sports teams including Basketball Academy that compete at all levels of competition, from local to national.

You will need to assist with the teaching and delivery of the curriculum, and will be expected to teach on most of the courses offered, subject to levels of experience. There will be a contribution to the BTEC Extended Science course. As a strong, enthusiastic team that is fully committed to maximising student potential, we are seeking to appoint a like-minded professional team player who can contribute fully to the continuing success of the subject area.
