Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Physical Education to teach PE and facilitate extra-curricular clubs. The supervision of female changing areas is required. The role would be suitable for NQTs/ECTs or experienced teachers.

We are a department with incredibly strong outcomes for our students. GCSE PE is a very popular subject with many of our students also opting to take part in extra-curricular sports clubs.

We are looking for an ambitious and inspiring teacher who can contribute to our culture of sharing practice for the benefit of all our pupils. You will be a hard-working and enthusiastic teacher who is focused on delivering outstanding lessons to all our students so that they excel in Physical Education and are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular sport clubs. The department is well resourced and you will be joining a team of consistently strong teachers that prioritise working collegiately to constantly improve the experiences of our learners. We use instructional models of teaching to focus on the content that will maximise the life chances of students and enable them to develop the knowledge and skills to engage in physical activity. This ties in with our department vision of promoting a culture that encourages all students to be engaged in physical activity and to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle

We are a highly aspirational school but we also really prioritise staff and student wellbeing and have just had our work in this area recognised by the Wellbeing Award for Schools (2023) and the Leading Parent Partnership Award (2023).

Stratford School Academy is an inclusive, mixed, community school characterised by high expectations, a rigorous academic curriculum and caring pastoral systems. We are a popular, high-performing school (overall Progress 8 is +0.61). Our recent Ofsted report (November 2022) noted, ‘This is a school where pupils learn successfully in a calm and supportive environment. Pupils achieve strong outcomes. Staff are proud to work at this school.’

We firmly believe that every student can excel and we seek to provide an inspirational learning journey that maximises student progress. The key pillars of this are excellent behaviour based on mutual respect, great teaching, a wide range of engaging activities beyond the classroom and really knowing and valuing every child. This means our students are safe and cared for, follow an academic curriculum and are supported to achieve the best of their potential in both their GCSEs and in developing their wider talents, character and sense of civic duty. This is all underpinned by our core values of respect, excellence and responsibility.

You will share our ambition to provide a great educational experience for all of our students and it is also crucial that you will be aligned with the culture and values of the school, so please read our information on Cultural Fit carefully to ensure you are clear that we are the kind of organisation you wish to be a part of.

Stratford School Academy has been rebuilt and redeveloped through the Priority Schools Building Programme recently. We now have two new buildings, each for 750 students situated on separate sites but close to one another. The two sites operate as parallel ‘mini schools’ educating students from Year 7 to 11.

You have the chance to join us at an exciting time as we continue to implement improvements which will enhance the educational experience of our students.

Stratford School Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to successful completion of Safer Recruitment checks, including an Enhanced DBS.

If you have any queries, please email HR@stratfordschoolacademy.org with your details.

Application process: A TES Application Form should be submitted via the TES portal.

Closing Date: Midnight on Monday 5th June 2023 (However, please note that the Academy reserves the right to shortlist, interview and make an appointment, prior to this closing date and so if you are interested in being considered, you are advised to apply at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment).

About Stratford School Academy

Vision

We are a mixed, all ability, and non-faith school. Our focus is our local community but our outlook is global.  We affirm what we have in common just as much as we celebrate what makes us different.

We believe that education is an intrinsic good that should be enjoyed by all.  As educators we will play our part in forming citizens who have a moral compass and understand and accept their responsibility for the well being of others.

At the same time, as a publicly funded educational institution, we have a responsibility to create public value and to succeed to the best of our abilities against those measures by which we are held accountable.  We accept this responsibility
School is an important step on the road to learning but it is not the only one.

There are some things that we must all learn now and much else that we will need to learn in the future.  We all learn from our families, our communities, our employers and our peers.  To this end we must teach our students not just what they need to know now but also to become independent learners who understand how to learn – people who, when they leave us, can travel the road to education by themselves.

We know that people learn in different ways but that for all of us learning is a social process.  We will use new technologies to accommodate this reality.  We will create a culture at Stratford School founded on finding answers to two questions:  What do we currently know about how we all learn and how can we implement our understanding within our school?  And: What isn't working and how can we make it better?

We will do everything we can with the resources at our disposal to provide each pupil in our school with a personal education that is enjoyable, that leads to appropriate qualifications and that lays the foundation for further learning.
The world in which we live is changing fast, education is no different.  We must therefore create open and flexible structures, both human and physical, that can quickly respond to change.

But we must not lose sight of the students at the heart of our school; we must see the education of each and every one of them in the round and ensure it is conducted in a human scale environment.

No student should be anonymous at Stratford School Academy.
