Job overview

Are you a creative PE Teacher, experienced working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and looking for a new challenge?

Wandle Valley Academy is a SEMH school in Carshalton, dedicated to pupils with Social Emotional and mental heath needs (SEMH) across all key stages. Some pupils have associated difficulties and can express severe and complex social and behavioural needs. A background and interest in working with SEMH children and young people is essential.

We have built an education community that we are incredibly proud of and are looking to find high quality teachers to join our team.

The Role

SEMH Key Stage 3 and 4 PE Teacher

You will be a qualified teacher (or have equivalent experience) with the ability to plan and teach to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils. There will be significant gaps in their knowledge and understanding which will need to be addressed and planned for. There is a real onus on teaching relevant courses with the appropriate accreditations depending on the pupil’s ability. You will be able to facilitate and embrace support required for our pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.

Classes are small, normally around 4 to 8 pupils with support and the official school day starts at 9.15am and finishes at 2.45pm.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate would have experience or an interest in working with children with severe SEMH and behavioural difficulties, either in a mainstream or special/PRU school environment.

You must have strong classroom management skills and relevant successful experience as a Teacher of PE or similar.

To join the WV team and be successful in this PE Teacher role you will need to have:

·        QTS/equivalent qualification or have equivalent experience that allows you to teach in academies

·        Excellent subject knowledge

·        Experience working with young people with a range of additional needs, such as SEMH

·        A flexible and calm approach when working with young people

·        The ability to build and develop positive relationships with pupils
