We are currently looking to appoint a Part time PE Teacher to join our wonderful teaching team at Essendene Lodge School. This is a great opportunity for a passionate and well qualified PE teacher to join our school. With our school thriving we require a PE teacher to join us in September. You will be teaching our hard working and outstanding pupils. 

We are looking for a PE teacher who will be able to enthuse our pupils and offer them an excellent classroom experience. This role would be suitable for experienced teachers or those starting out in their career. This Part time role will be for 17 hours per week, term time only.

Essendene Lodge School is an independent Preparatory School and Nursery in the heart of Caterham, Surrey. We cater for boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 11. The school prides itself on the family friendly ethos and entrance exam success rate at the end of Year 6. Small class sizes ensure that individual attention is given to pupils in every lesson and children experience a varied curriculum such as French, Music, Sports, Drama, computing and experience activities that full of fun and engagement such as Musical Theatre, Drama, debating and many more.

Sport and physical activity are an important part of school life. At Essendene Lodge School pupils take part in separate P.E. and games lessons every week to include Football, Hockey, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Cricket, Gymnastics, Handball, Volleyball, Circuit Training, Dance, Athletics and Swimming. Children are encouraged to develop balance, co-ordination and agility, and are taught basic ball skills from an early age. 

We believe that it is important for both girls and boys to enjoy all sports so we combine girls and boys Games throughout the year and allow them all to participate in Football, Cricket and Netball. We attend regular fixtures with other local schools to allow the pupils to experience competitive matches with the emphasis on teaching them about good sportsmanship.

  • are confident about teaching a broad range of sports and activities and is keen to develop professionally
  • have experience of teaching Key Stage 1 or 2
  • can share the schools values.
  • are dynamic, self-motivated and flexible
  • have high expectations of pupils’ attainment, progress and behaviour
  • have strong digital skills – for enhancing learning and work efficiency
  • have a personal philosophy of teaching which reflects our approach
  • can work effectively as part of a team, building positive relationships with colleagues
  • can plan effectively and is sensitive to the learning needs of pupils of different abilities
  • can regularly assesses pupils’ work formally and informally, using Assessment for Learning strategies
  • are approachable and confident in dealings with pupils’ parents and external agencies
  • have good administration skills
  • have good class management skills
  • are enthusiastic, innovative and creative with a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school


We are looking for a PE teacher who not only can deliver engaging lessons but can also lead after school sports clubs, accompany residentials such as ski trips, arrange interschool matches and of course organising sports day. The ability to drive a school minibus would be looked upon favourably or someone willing to learn.
