Riverston School is a small, very happy and thriving senior independent school with a strong inclusive ethos. We have small classes with a maximum of 10 students in a class, an LSA in each classroom, 3 SENCOs and an onsite therapist team to support our teachers and students to thrive. We work hard to develop our teachers and all teachers, who have their own high specification iPad’s, keyboards and pens, and these will also be rolled out to all students in January.
Our students either have an EHCP or an IEP and range from 11 – 19 years old. We offer multiple pathways to success which include A levels, GCSE, BTec and Life skills. We have well behaved students and a great team and are looking for the right person to join us.
If you are a positive, inclusive, and reflective teacher, who enjoys using technology in their lessons, we are currently looking for a full-time English teacher position, to teach Key Stage 3 and GCSE. This role has scope for an additional responsibility for the right candidate. Ability to offer an additional subject is desirable.
The teacher of Performing Arts will join our school where they will support a thriving team of practitioners. We work hard to develop our teachers and all teachers have their own brand-new iPad’s, keyboards and pens, as will the students from January. You will show passion in subject and lesson delivery which will inspire all learners to reach or exceed their capabilities. Therefore, the successful candidate will have up-to-date knowledge of approaches to teaching and learning as well as solid curriculum content. You will set high expectations and deliver quality teaching to children with learning difficulties.
The Role
Main Duties
Teaching & Learning
· To deliver inclusive, creative lessons, incorporating technology for inclusive success.
· To work as part of a professional team, developing understanding of the students to meet their needs
· To liaise with the SEN Team and KS Coordinators to meet the needs of the students
· To ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching
· To use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of pupil needs and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.
· To set and monitor appropriate homework (in accordance with the school homework policy)
· To work effectively as a member of the Department, to improve the quality of teaching and learning for all
· To use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupils to feel safe and secure and promotes their self esteem
Monitoring, Assessment Recording, Reporting and Accountability
· To be responsible for using all the information available to set appropriate assessments and monitor ongoing progress through AFL
· To assess pupils’ work systematically and use the results to inform future planning, teaching and curricular development
· To prepare and present informative, helpful and accurate reports to parents.
Welfare, Behaviour and Safeguarding
· To take part in trips and undertake duties as required
· To support the school’s values, positive attitudes and good pupils behaviour, encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
· Administer first aid as appropriate (training will be given).
· Maintain vigilance regarding Safeguarding and Child Protection.
· Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person in a timely and proactive manner
Professional Development
· To attend and participate in regular meetings as appropriate
· To participate in training and other learning activities offered by the school to further knowledge.
· To carry out the above duties in accordance with the school’s Equalities Policy.

Salary range: £25,000 - £40,000 dependent on experience and ability

Riverston School is a mixed, specialist SEND independent school with Nursery, Senior School and Sixth Form departments situated in Lee, south-east London.
Riverston School was founded in 1926 and has been family-owned since 1956. The school is housed in four adjacent Victorian houses. Recent refurbishments and upgrades have delivered a coffee shop, a sixth-form area and a centre for textiles, food technology and skills for life.

Vision and values
Riverston School’s main aims are: to provide a safe, supportive and caring environment for everyone; to offer a modern and varied curriculum that works for each individual student; and to equip pupils with a range of skills for their future life, encompassing the academic, social, physical, creative and moral skills everyone needs.
While the curriculum concentrates on traditional academic subjects, children’s physical and creative development is prioritised too. Students learn English, maths, history, geography, RE, languages, ICT, science and business studies, alongside drama, food technology, music, design and technology, art and choir. They also have the opportunity to take part in junior sports leadership awards and athletic challenges such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
