Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Peripatetic Percussion teacher to work at this leading co-educational prep school in Surrey. Hall Grove is a family-owned school with a family ethos at its heart. Our school values are the foundation of everything we do.

At present this role would be to work alongside another peripatetic percussion teacher, initially starting with a small number of pupils. However, we do anticipate this number increasing rapidly in the course of this academic year. The post also includes the direction of the Percussion Ensemble which rehearses once a week. At the current time, the candidate would need to be able to teach at Hall Grove on a Thursday (and some of Tuesday morning) due to room availability. This may well change for the academic year 2023-2024.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of preparing children for ABRSM music exams. They will bring enthusiasm and passion to their teaching, and motivate their pupils to progress. They will also be expected to maintain clear and consistent communication with the parents of their pupils, produce annual written reports, and regularly enter their pupils into Informal Lunchtime Concerts at school.

Hall Grove is committed to safeguarding, keeping children safe from harm and promoting their welfare. All staff have the responsibility for safeguarding children and this is a key part of the role.

Peripatetics at Hall Grove are self-employed and set their own teaching rate which is between £22-£25 per half hour lesson (in line with MU suggested rates). Communication is directly between the parent and the peripatetic, but the school will act on your behalf in areas such as recruitment of pupils and any problems which may arise with fee payment.

The school’s music department has recently invested in class samba sets, djembe sets and owns 8 steel pans and a vibraphone all of which can be used by the percussion ensemble.

To better understand the unique learning environment that is Hall Grove School, all applicants are strongly encouraged to visit our website www.hallgrove.co.uk prior to applying.

Applications to the Director of Music by email (recruitment@hallgrove.co.uk), attaching the completed Application Form.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended) and full safeguarding checks will be undertaken prior to appointment.

The school is committed to equal opportunities, welcoming applications from all those who meet the essential requirements of the role.
