Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving Performing Arts Faculty at Bede’s School. LAMDA forms part of our activity and after school co-curricular programme. It currently takes place three afternoons a week.

We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and flexible teacher with a thorough knowledge of the range of LAMDA specifications. We currently offer Solo and Duologue LAMDA Acting lessons, Shakespeare and Musical Theatre, but we can be flexible with the courses on offer and there is scope to offer additional qualifications.

The post will involve teaching LAMDA lessons to pupils of a wide age range, from Year 9 through to Sixth Form, and to prepare them for graded LAMDA examinations.

The candidate will need to be up-to-date with the current LAMDA exam syllabus and the most recent LAMDA text anthologies. Historically, our LAMDA students have gained a wealth of distinctions from grades 5-9 and we have our first PCertLAM student completing assessment later this term. A broad knowledge of additional play texts is crucial.

The school is currently a registered LAMDA examination centre and the candidate would be involved in organising and leading the examination process.

LAMDA Lessons can take place throughout our activity and after-school programmes which begin at 1.10pm and finish at 6.30pm. Classes will be taught individually or in pairs for LAMDA examinations at all levels. Occasionally, lessons will be taught in small groups.

We envisage the cumulative hours to be 16.5 hours of teaching time per week, over three days. However, our ambition is this might expand with demand. The successful candidate will be paid at an hourly rate of £35 to reflect the number of lessons taught. Overtime will be paid for weekend examination sessions. The exact timing and number of hours can be discussed.

Closing date: 9.00am on 29 October 2021.

We will commence interviews from the week commencing Monday 18 October, before the start of the half term break. Early applications are therefore encouraged as they will be considered as they are received.  We reserve the right to appoint a suitable candidate prior to this date.

Bede’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post. This includes checks with past employers and the Disclosure Barring Service.
