Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented Peripatetic Teacher of Percussion to join our thriving Music Department from September 2020. The primary requirement will be to teach pupils of all abilities from Year 7 to Year 13 and be able to motivate young people in their music-making.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide lessons on a one-to-one basis, in addition to supporting and promoting the performance of pupils within the Music Department and the school.

Hours of work will be dependent on the number of students wishing to study percussion. We have a number of existing students wishing to continue lessons in September, together with new applications from our September intake who are keen to learn drums.  Total weekly hours are likely to be 1½ to 2 hours per week.   We would also like to develop this provision and we hope that our successful candidate will be able to help with our promotion.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide lessons on a one-to-one basis, in addition to supporting and promoting the performance of pupils within the Music Department and the school.

This opportunity would suit a confident and highly motivated practitioner, with a range of musical talents and tastes, who is comfortable teaching a range of untuned and tuned percussion instruments.  Initially, the role is likely to involve mainly drum kit teaching.  You will normally have either several years’ experience in classroom teaching with a suitable higher-level qualification and some instrumental specialism, or be an instrumental specialist with a music degree and be able to perform at an equivalent standard on your main instrument.

If you wish to have the opportunity of an informal discussion prior to submitting an application form, please contact the Director of Music, Richard Burdett (rburdett@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk).

To apply for this position please submit your application to  LMckenzie@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk CV’s will be accepted but all applicants will be required to complete a formal application form.
