We are seeking an organised and professional PA to join our school.

The successful candidate must be proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and should be willing to undertake training on the schools Information Management System (SIMS).

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This busy role requires the ability to work both under direction, and independently, using initiative to prioritise workloads.

Previous experience in the role of a PA, ideally within a school setting, would be an advantage, but this is not essential. This role requires an individual who is confident and reliable with a good understanding of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

The school is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure via the Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS). An online search (including social media) will be carried out for all shortlisted candidates.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a school that is committed to achieving the best outcomes for all pupils, and to being an integral link with the wider community.

Closing date: Monday 6th February 2023 by 12 noon

Interviews: Thursday 9th February 2023

Walney School is an 11 – 16 Academy with 491 students currently on roll and is a member of a small Multi Academy Trust.

Our Senior Leadership team are supported and challenged by an experienced Governing Body. Ofsted have recently inspected our school and reported that: “Staff believe that leaders are approachable. They said that leaders are always ready to listen to them and understand, and they support their professional development. They feel that leaders are responsive to staff workload or other pressures that occasionally arise”.

Our setting is as unique as it is beautiful, being located on a small island off the stunning coastline of the Furness Peninsular on the fringes of the Lake District. Walney Island is eleven miles long from north to south and never more than a mile wide from east to west.

We are especially well placed to cater for bird watchers, kite and wind-surfing, walkers, canoeists, climbers and a whole host of other outdoor activities. The island contains two nature reserves, at either end, and its sandy beaches make it a popular leisure destination.

Walney School is the only secondary school on the Island with several primary feeder schools. Students who wish to enter sixth form college or further education do so by crossing the bridge to the mainland in Barrow. We serve a close knit and highly supportive community who enjoy having their school at their heart.  The Islands population as at the 2021 Census was 10,519, distributed evenly across north and south.

A key element of our improvement journey has been raising the ambitions and aspirations of our students. It is our vision that this will not only rapidly improve their outcomes and thus life chances but will also raise the same ambition throughout our community.

We want our school to be one we are all proud to be a part of: proud of our achievements, proud of our school and proud of our community.
