 Scale 3, £26,193 per annum FTE

£19,218.75 pro rata salary


The Governing Body are looking to appoint an inspirational and self-motivated Personal Care Assistant to this new and varied position. If you are a dynamic, committed, and inspirational Personal Care Assistant who wants to make a difference to the lives and outcomes of Woodlane SEND pupils we welcome your application.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have English and Maths GCSE (A*- C) or equivalent.
  • Have the ability to be sensitive and responsive to the personal, emotional, medical and educational needs of pupils.
  • Have experience working with children or adults with disabilities.
  • Have experience working in a school, nursery, health or care setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise their workload and the workload of others.
  • Highly value strong parent school links.
  • Have a strong commitment to extra-curricular activity.
  • Be able to support Woodlane's Dyslexia Friendly approach to raise the literacy standards of our pupils.
  • Be able to use SLCN strategies to support teaching and learning.
  • Enjoy supporting in a variety of areas. 
  • Be keen to share best practice with others through INSET/Outreach.
  • Be someone who is highly organised.
  • Be someone who is highly resilient.
  • Be someone who puts safeguarding and child protection at the centre of practice.

The position will include:

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assisting pupils with their day-to-day personal care needs and to work alongside other professional staff to further pupils’ independence skills.
  • Working as part of a team in the development of personal care programmes for pupils.
  • Assisting pupils in implementing their personal care programmes during the school day, specifically in relation to practical support for:

-Personal hygiene

-Toileting and incontinence

-Eating and drinking

-Mobilising and transferring pupils

-Therapeutic programmes e.g. SALT/OT/Physiotherapy etc.

  • Providing practical assistance in relation to other identified physical needs e.g. transportation, dressing, mealtimes, organisation of learning equipment etc.
  • Keeping records related to personal care in conjunction with other staff.
  • Maintaining and cleaning personal care equipment and materials, clothing etc.
  • Maintenance of toiletry supplies.
  • Providing personal assistance to identified pupil/pupils in physical/practical activities e.g. physical education, food technology, school visits, therapeutic treatments organised by the school etc.
  • Working in cooperation with other key workers/ the multi-disciplinary team involved in supporting the pupils’ educational and health/personal care needs. 
  • Supporting both in and out of class.
  • Providing extra-curricular activities. 
  • Leading and monitoring the work of other Teaching Assistants in relation to the tasks above.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Promoting inclusivity and participation for pupils throughout the school day.
  • Maintaining pupil confidentiality, be aware of school policies and procedures and comply with these.
  • Undertaking general clerical and administrative work, such as documentation or filing.
  • Attending relevant in-service training and participate in the evaluation of the support programme.
  • Contributing to the positive development of the Teaching Assistant team.
  • The delivery of extra-curricular activity.
  • Carrying out other associated duties commensurate with the post determined by the senior leadership team.
