We have a fantastic opportunity at our Plymouth Campus for an experienced and interactive Personal Assistant on a full time (52 weeks per year), permanent basis. 

This role is to support a child with profound difficulties and cognitive delay, who has medical and therapeutic needs. The student will need support to and from school and so the role will start and finish each day at Newton Abbot. Transportation to and from Plymouth Campus will be via school transport accompanying the student. The work carried out on a daily basis will include in the classroom at Plymouth Campus, outside the main teaching area, offsite with the other students or in the child's home. 

Key responsibilities:

- Assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned 

- Enable him /her to make the best use of the educational opportunities available to them 

- To support a 24-hour postural management programme (during work hours) 

- Work towards pupil individualised targets as set out out within the EHCP (Education and Health Care Plan) 

- Delivery specific time limited interventions in small groups or 1:1 

- Monitor pupils' progress and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils' achievement, progress and development 

- Work alongside specialist external professionals and integrate therapy where appropriate in the curriculum 

- To provide learning support within the context of our Self-Directed Learning Philosophy 

- Work alongside a Healthcare Assistant when supporting the pupil and provide support for all activities of daily living including eating, drinking, personal care, intimate care, ongoing medical needs such as Tracheostomy and ventilator care etc 

You will:

- Have experience working with children with complex learning needs (or willing to be trained and work as a team member) 

- Have working knowledge and experience of implementing national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes and strategies 

- Have an understanding of SEND (Special Educational Needs) procedures 

- Experience in the following would be useful:

   - Moving and handling experience

   - Experience of using a hoist

   - Care for trach vent

   - Catheter care 

- Have GCSE Grade C or above / equivalent In English and Maths 

- Uphold and promulgate the OneSchool Global UK ethos within all areas of responsibility
