Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to for a Personal Tutor to join the Student Experience and Pastoral Support team. This is a brand new role at Derby College as we are looking to recruit experts to deliver valuable tutorial sessions to our students and work alongside our teaching staff.

You will be based at our Technology Academy, the Roundhouse and will work with students studying Construction, Motor and/or Engineering.  The Roundhouse Campus is on Pride Park with great access to local amenities such as restaurants, and brilliant transport links.  There is also a Starbucks on campus!  Other examples of benefits you’ll have access to as a Derby College employee include access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, great annual leave allowances, CPD opportunities, discounts at selected retailers, free eyecare tests and discounted rail travel.

The role would suit an energetic person with a desire to deliver to, and work with, a range of students and levels from entry 3 to level 3. The role will include delivery of the centralised tutorial programme as well as conducting one to ones with students.  You will be confident in delivering topics such as Prevent, positive relationships, progression sessions and study skills.  You will also be promoting opportunities to students such as wider tutorial events, seminars, guest speakers and industry events.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
