Severndale Specialist Academy is a large, vibrant and forward thinking special school for over 400 children and young people aged 2 ½ to 19 with a range of learning difficulties, physical and mobility difficulties and some who require personal care. It is the largest special school in the country and is based across 3 bright and modern sites - the main Monksmoor campus, a provision in the partner mainstream secondary school, Mary Webb School, and a vocational provision in the local FE College, Shrewsbury College. In addition, the school engages in over 30 inclusive partnerships with local mainstream schools, nurseries and colleges, raising the profile of SEND as positive contributors in the community, whilst simultaneously helping to shape a generation of future leaders who will develop a future which is better and more inclusive.
The school is now recruiting for an outstanding individual to lead its Secondary Phase and to play a key role in its future success.
The school has a strong ethos based around the vision of ‘everyone valued, everyone included, everyone learning’. This is a highly inclusive and aspirational school, where leaders have high expectations and help pupils and staff to realise their potential. This ambition is reflected in the student’s outstanding achievements in the DofE award, food hygiene certificate and first aid, amongst other qualifications and accreditation’s, including GCSE’s and BTEC’s.
The school’s greatest strength is its dedicated and highly skilled team of 275 teachers, teaching assistants and support staff. They are dynamic and outward facing, working as one team to ensure consistency and progression in the broad, balanced and relevant curriculum while utilising expertise from the different aspects of the academy. Staff are truly valued and there are high levels of staff engagement, through professional development and bespoke weekly training. The school continually strives to achieve more, working within supportive structures that help it to further improve, creating safe and happy environments where everyone can learn and thrive.
This is an important leadership role and as the Secondary Phase Leader you will be accountable for pupil progress and development with the Secondary Phase of the Academy. You will develop and enhance the practice of teachers within the department through performance management and ensure the provisions are relevant, exciting and challenging for the pupils. You will play a key role in promoting the vision and values of the academy at all times particularly when welcoming new admissions ensuring that relationships with parents and professionals are positive and purposeful. There will be a 0.6 teaching commitment.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop both pupils and staff to achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, robust and resilient to achieve the very best outcomes with a proven track record of achieving success. Commitment to embrace and actively promote current and new ideas, whilst having a strong approach to supporting all Teacher Standards is essential.
