Job overview

Fine Arts College, an independent school and sixth form college in Belsize Park, London seeks a part-time GCSE Photography Teacher starting in September 2019.

We are rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and pride ourselves on having a caring, encouraging ethos. We specialise in arts, humanities and social science subjects. Our lessons challenge the students to engage in discussion and debate so that, far from being simply ‘taught’, students become inquiring critical thinkers and independent learners. We want to inspire a passion for learning that will last a lifetime and continue to enrich beyond formal exams.

You will be required to establish a clear and thorough scheme of work, teach Year 10 and Year 11 lessons up to and including the GCSE exam. Most of our 200 students are studying A levels but we have around 30 students in Years 10 and 11.

This role will include teaching darkroom film processing and printing, working a camera, and digital editing and manipulation. A practical knowledge of photography as well as photographic theory and history is required, together with awareness of contemporary work. Teaching experience preferable. Photography experience, including analogue and digital, is essential. Knowledge and experience of other disciplines such as film, video, art, and design is advantageous.

You will be part of a happy and ambitious Photography department, where duties will range from maintaining equipment to planning gallery visits with students. The role will be approximately three days a week and pay will be according to experience.

Fine Arts College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  All successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Detailed references will be sought.
