Position Profile
• Direct UK teaching experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years AL/IGCSE/AP teaching experience in the relevant area
• Ability to teach high achieving students
• Degree in area of expertise for teaching
• Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent)
Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position
• To plan and deliver lessons according to Scheme of Work using a variety of learning activities
• To create and conduct assessments according to departmental schemes of assessment and produce reports which meet the required standards in a timely fashion
• To regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and design appropriate evaluations to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement
• To collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, sharing best practices and resources
• Possibilities for teaching AP Physics
• Opportunities for teaching RPQ (projects) & GNT (Gifted and talented)
Brief Description of SCIE
UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) teaching through the medium of English to mainly Chinese students preparing for overseas universities.
We also run an AP stream since 2025, hence there are some opportunities for teachers interested in AP teaching in various subjects.

Subject Department Introduction:
The Physics team has 19 full time teachers and 4 technicians, working in our 11 purpose-built labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes, from IGCSE Physics in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Physics in Years 12 and 13. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with about 80% of the cohort taking it at AS level and two thirds the cohort at A Level. Results are very high; always over 90% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and 90% at A Level. Each year a very large number of SCIE students choose to apply to Physics or Engineering courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Physics, Engineering or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.
The ideal candidate will be willing to adapt to the dynamics of the current team, be a pro-active team member and be passionate about incorporating regular practical work into their teaching repertoire. Experience of teaching Physics at the highest levels and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Physics will be an advantage. Being willing and able to ‘teach to the top’ and scaffold up is essential; the successful candidate will be expert in providing regular opportunities for ‘hard thinking’ and will consistently use checking for understanding techniques, to make learning adaptive.

Schedule
• Working week: Monday – Friday 07:50 – 16:40 (with 07:30 start Mondays and early finish 15:00 Fridays)
• Normal contact teaching time – 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approx. 50% timetable)
• Personal time – 6 periods per week fixed in timetable when do not need to be at work.
• Extra – Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30 – 17:30)
• CPD – large range of professional development available both online and face-to-face.
• Holidays – 1 week for October China National Day holiday, 2 weeks Christmas holiday, 3 weeks Chinese New Year holiday, Chinese public holidays, mid-June to early August Summer holiday.
Pastoral
Pastoral care is at the heart of what we do at SCIE. All classroom teachers have a role to play in taking care of the whole student promoting their safety, sense of belonging and their wellbeing during their time at the college.
• Form tutor role – most classroom teachers will be required take on a form group of approximately 20 students. The role includes having regular individual mentoring meetings as part of the timetable, having regular form time with the group as well as teaching a weekly PSHE lesson. As the main point of contact for students, form tutors are responsible for getting to know their tutees beyond the classroom. The form tutor role attracts an additional allowance.
• Teachers without a form tutor role may be required to take on additional pastoral duties as required.
• Pastoral professional development – in addition to annual safeguarding training there are additional opportunities to develop your practice in this area and contribute to whole school pastoral development.

Shenzhen College of International Education:
Founded in 2003, SCIE is the city’s first full-time high school (Year 10 to Year 13) teaching an international curriculum. SCIE is a highly selective day and boarding school teaching an international curriculum to Chinese students preparing them for overseas universities.
