Overview of the Role:

We are looking to appoint an innovative and dynamic teacher of Physics to teach from Fourth Form (Year 9) to A level.

At GCSE, Physics is taught both as a separate AQA Physics qualification and as part of the AQA Combined Science (Trilogy) qualification, providing opportunities to teach pupils across a range of abilities. Alongside GCSE teaching, the successful candidate will also inspire and support pupils to thrive through the challenge of the OCR A-level Physics A course. The department has a strong academic focus, which seeks to develop pupils’ curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm for Physics throughout their time at Culford.

All classrooms have interactive white boards with full wireless internet access for all pupils. All pupils have laptops and we use Google Classroom as our teaching and learning platform. We also use a range of educationally-approved AI platforms and our Sixth Formers have access to UpLearn at A level. Whilst experience in the use of these products would be advantageous, full training will be given as necessary to the successful candidate.

Academic lessons are taught from Monday to Friday allowing time on Saturday mornings for our ACE Programme (Academic and Co-Curricular Enrichment). In the life of our busy boarding school, teachers are expected to deliver enrichment activities on approximately 50% of Saturdays.

Culford believes in professional and personal development and will seek to support the successful candidate in all areas. We have connections with the Teachers’ Development Trust and the Chartered College of Teaching, and seek to offer a wide range of professional development opportunities to all staff. We aim to ensure that our pupils are receiving the best possible experience in the classroom, while our staff are supported in developing their careers.

Teaching and learning at Culford received high praise in our last ISI inspection (May 2024). We value dynamism and risk-taking, and colleagues are given freedom to teach creatively in ways that inspire pupils.

Welcome to Culford.

Any visit to or interaction with our school will be that - a genuine welcome.

Ours is a school that places human kindness and respect at the very heart of everything we go on to achieve.

On paper, Culford is a lot to take in. A school for girls and boys from age 1 to 18. A school for both day and boarding pupils but with the unmistakable soul of a boarding school. A school supporting elite specialist sporting pathways with international recognition. A school for members of our local community, our national community, and a global community that enriches everyone’s experience - opening our eyes to the world beyond our incredible setting.

And what a setting, all 480 acres of it. We are very lucky to call this ‘park’ our home. Yet in reality - looking past the grand mansion and sweeping acreage - this is a purposefully small, happily close community of people who all come to school or work for the same reason each day; to improve. To be a better version of myself tomorrow than I was today.

This is the true spirit of Culford.

No moment wasted to improve.

No moment wasted to enjoy.

Together, with courage and compassion.

Head

Claire Bentley
