Based in the heart of London, Harris Westminster Sixth Form combines the strengths of Westminster School in teaching academically able students with the Harris Federation’s experience in establishing and running outstanding maintained sector schools across London. We are highly over-subscribed and academically selective with a large proportion of our cohort in receipt of offers from Russell group Universities (including Oxbridge) and we are looking for outstanding individuals to join this vibrant and scholarly community.

Prepare London’s most able state school students for entry to the world’s top universities.

As part of our continued expansion, Harris Westminster Sixth Form is looking to hire a Physics Teacher for September 2016 who is both passionate about preparing London’s most able state school students for entry to the world’s top universities and is keen to join a highly academic and successful department.

We opened in September 2014 with 138 students, ten of whom have been offered places to study at Oxford or Cambridge, and we expect to have 500 students in September 2016, keen to join an environment where learning and scholarship are paramount.

We are looking for a Physics teacher with:

  • Enthusiasm, passion, outstanding subject knowledge, and a consistent drive to teach beyond A*.
  • Vision, presence and clarity.
  • A love of learning and a desire to further your knowledge both within and outside Physics.
  • The ability to deliver consistently good (or better) lessons.

We can offer you:

  • The opportunity to teach some of the brightest young minds in London and open up the world’s most prestigious universities to them.
  • Support, CPD and networking with subject experts at Westminster School and from across the Harris Federation.
  • A positive and innovative learning environment where teaching is spread across six days per week.
  • Opportunities to deliver Cultural Perspectives classes in areas of knowledge that are of particular interest to you.
  • Excellent prospects for future promotion.

As part of the Harris Federation of Schools you can expect to work in an atmosphere of mutual support and co-operation with superb professional development and promotion opportunities within both the Sixth form and the Harris Federation. If you are committed to the learning and well-being of London’s teenagers we welcome your application.

This post would suit more experienced teachers looking for an opportunity to innovate and develop, or an NQT seeking an exciting and academically rigorous school in which to start their career (first class NQT mentoring will be provided by leaders at Harris Westminster in partnership with subject experts at Westminster School).

Applications are also welcomed from well qualified graduates seeking an opportunity to train as a teacher. We can offer a salaried placement on the School Direct Programme.

Academy Ethos

Ambition. Perseverance. Legacy. After two years of outstanding education and personal development our students will not just be ready to face the world but to change it.

Ambition: Our students will have high expectations of themselves. They will believe in their own abilities and in their capacity to learn, developing new skills and knowledge. They will be unafraid of competition, seeking out new challenges and collaborating successfully to meet them. Their long term goals will be stretching and exciting and they will know how to take the next step on the road to meeting them.

Perseverance: Our students will understand the value of hard work and will be able to concentrate on medium and long term goals. They will not be dismayed by mistakes but will learn from them and seek opportunities to use their learning. They will use different approaches to solve problems and will not give up if they don’t succeed at the first attempt. They will encourage each other and accept encouragement: they will celebrate not just their own successes but those of their peers.

Legacy: Our students will have a strong moral code and a desire to help others.  They will understand the impact that their words and actions have and make their choices accordingly. They will learn about cultures and groups other than their own and will be interested in the ideas of others. They will have the courage to stand up for what is right even when it is difficult and leave enterprises of all kinds and scales better for their involvement.
