Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Play Worker to join our Pre-School team in September 2021.

We are looking for a Play Worker/Support Worker to join the Pre-School staff. The Play Worker will work as part of the Pre-School team providing the After-School Club and Holiday Club Sessions, supporting the Early Years Lead Practitioner.

Applicants must be prepared to undergo screening to confirm their suitability to work with children and young people.  Applicants will also need to undergo First Aid and Food Hygiene training if not already undertaken. Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the SSSC.

Hours of Work: 

  • This is a part-time post (0.51 FTE)
  • Monday to Friday, 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm, during the school holidays for 15 weeks
  • Monday to Friday, 3.45 pm to 5.15 pm, term time
  • To provide 8 weeks holiday cover during term time as required
  • 7 weeks annual holiday, two weeks to be taken at Christmas, 1 week at Easter and the remainder during term time 

Key Purpose of Job:

  • To work as part of the After-School Club team to provide high-quality care for children aged 5-8.
  • To work as part of the Holiday Club team to provide high-quality care for children aged 3-12.
  • To support Early Years Lead Practitioner and Support Worker.
  • To provide a caring, secure environment, through individual attention and group activities.

Salary

The hourly rate for this role is £9.28.

Interview procedure

The School is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, the selection process will therefore be undertaken, at least in part, virtually.

Only those best fulfilling the job specification will be shortlisted. Interviews will be with the Junior School Headmaster and the Junior School Deputy Head.

The selection process and interview questions will be structured around the information given in your application.

You will be asked to explain any discrepancies or anomalies in the information you have provided either on the application form or in your covering letter as well as any issues arising from references, which will have been taken up before your interview.  Questions may be asked about child protection procedures and your suitability to work with children.

It is anticipated that applicants will be shortlisted and notified by Monday 5 July 2021 and interviews will be held between Wednesday 7 and Friday 9 July 2021.

The School is not able to enter into correspondence with unsuccessful applicants about why they were not appointed or interviewed.
