We are a thriving special school committed to providing outstanding education and care to children and young people aged 11–19 with a range of complex needs including PMLD, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You will play a key role in shaping a rich, stimulating, and personalised curriculum that enables every learner to thrive.
What We’re Looking For:
- A qualified teacher (QTS or overseas equivalent) with experience in SEN settings, particularly with learners with PMLD.
- Someone confident in leading a small team of teaching assistants, with a commitment to collaborative, person-centred learning.
- A skilled communicator who can work effectively with parents, carers, therapists, and other professionals.
- An organised and reflective practitioner, capable of leading on planning, assessment, reporting and behaviour support.
- A teacher who brings creativity, warmth, and resilience to their classroom practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, multi-sensory teaching that supports highly individualised PLIMs (Personal Learning Intention Maps).
- Lead and manage a class team to create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
- Design and assess learning that reflects both the National Curriculum and specialist SEN strategies.
- Develop and implement behaviour support plans and contribute to school-wide assemblies and enrichment.
- Contribute to the development of the school’s sensory curriculum and wider curriculum leadership (M6–UP3).

Heron Academy is located in Lambeth and supports around 80 11-18-year-olds with a range of special needs, including ASD and severe and profound multiple learning difficulties.
Formerly known as The Michael Tippett School, Heron Academy is on a journey of rapid improvement, ensuring that every child and young person is supported to achieve their full potential.
A new Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team have been put in place, together with the introduction of a new uniform and a range of improvements made to the building and learning environment.
Each pupil has a personalised curriculum to meet their unique needs and to help them meet their individual targets. Our specialist staff are committed to supporting this and work in partnership with parents and carers to achieve the very best outcomes for every child and young person.
With specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and a life skills area, pupils can access a wide curriculum and enrichment programme to meet their physical, academic and emotional needs. This is an evolving and creative offer, supporting personal development and focused on meeting individual EHCP outcomes.
