The Post

You will be responsible for the transition of the Post 16 learners from statements/LDA to Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) and new learners requiring an EHC assessment. This includes processing, recording and financial management of the Post 16 SEN learners.

The position includes working closely with Connexions, local colleges and schools, independent providers and the finance officers within the Council, ensuring that all Post 16 learners are considered for assessment and funding and will support the accurate completion of any numerical or financial returns to the Education Funding Agency (EFA)

The post holder is expected to participate fully in the development and delivery of the SEND reforms, delivering high standards of customer care to learners, their parents/carers and other stakeholders, particularly regarding applications for Post 16 funding. You will also facilitate the Post 16 discussion and decision panel, ensuring the panel meets regularly, is effective and that cases are considered and decided in a timely manner with multi-agency input.

The Person

You will be a superb communicator at all levels with strong influencing and negotiating skills, highly organised and have an excellent level of literacy. An understanding of law and procedures relating to the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014 is essential for this role. Previous experience of working within a SEN setting involving a range of professionals is required as well as a good knowledge of SEN in an education based environment.

You will be IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, be highly numerate, able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing whilst working to tight deadlines.

In view of the new Special Educational Needs Legislation the post holder will gain new experiences to support their future development in this field and to contribute to the implementation of the Children and Families Act 2014 and represent the Local Authority at the Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal.
