PPA Cover Teacher (SEN)

Salary range: between 20594 and 31421

Pay details: UQT1-UQT6 + SEN

Start date: 17th April 2023

Well it was only a matter of time before you found the best teaching post on the site! We are the place to teach! Our staff are innovative, positive and enjoy being part of a team. Our teachers and TAs are dynamic, experimental and engage wholeheartedly in the development of the curriculum, subject leadership and cross-curricular learning. This is a permanent position for a PPA cover teacher starting from 17th April 2023. The role will involve delivering PPA cover lessons to small classes of pupils with SEN. Some lessons will be linked to the class's topic, whereas others will be in the successful candidate's particular area of interest or expertise; it is preferable for this to be PE, although other areas of specialism, such as art, drama or music, would also be considered. The role would suit those with a HLTA qualification, or degree-holders who have some teaching experience and would like to take the next step towards teacher training. Previous experience of working in an SEN school is not required, as ongoing training will be provided. Job Context St Luke’s is a wonderful Foundation Special School for pupils aged 7-16, who have a wide range of learning and social needs, fantastic personalities and skills that make this job truly special! Our premises are evolving and we have a wealth of opportunities on our large site. Working closely with the local and wider communities, the school is expanding our curriculum to ensure outstanding support for our learners as they transition into adulthood. Having federated with The Collett School (Hemel Hempstead) to become The Blue Tangerine Federation, we are embarking on a new stage of our journey. We are building on the best of what we already have, whilst moving forward to improve our resources and provide the best opportunities for young people with SEND in the West of Hertfordshire. Whether you prefer to work with younger children or our teenagers, we have numerous opportunities for you here. Our classes are relatively small (about 10) and the curriculum is designed around the needs of your own group - innovation, celebration and relevance are the key ingredients for your planning. The most important attributes of the successful candidate would be enthusiasm for teaching and a desire to actively engage with your own continuing professional development, in order to offer the best possible support for our children. As a Federation, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is an essential for this post, as are references which are taken up and robustly checked. Full training is given, as are regular updates to ensure our children are kept safe. This is a welcoming, caring and friendly school, full of vitality and enthusiasm. If this looks interesting - come and have a look around this amazing school and see if we're right for you too! Please contact our reception on 01582 626727 or email Donna Abel on HR@bluetangerine.herts.sch.uk Thank you for

your interest and looking forward to seeing you soon. Best wishes,

Stephen Hoult-Allen Executive Head   We are required to conduct online searches about all candidates as part of the shortlisting process, in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance, in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. By submitting and signing your application, you acknowledge that such searches will be conducted as part of the shortlisting process. Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as the school reserves the right to close the advert should we feel able to appoint an appropriate candidate.

St Luke's is a Foundation federated with The Collett School to form The Blue Tangerine Federation. The Blue Tangerine Federation is a collaboration of specialist and special education schools. Both schools have Foundation status. St Luke’s School and The Collett School are special educational needs schools for children with complex learning difficulties. St Luke’s School St Luke’s is a wonderful special school for pupils aged 7-16 with learning disabilities and increasingly complex needs. The designation for the school is children with cognitive disabilities including Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Moderate (MLD) learning disabilities.  We welcome applicants to the school who have a passion for enabling our children with special needs to thrive through childhood into adulthood. You will need a great sense of humour, willingness to try new strategies, a love of 'difference' and enthusiasm for delivering a special curriculum that focuses on the individuals' needs, aspiration and enjoyment of learning - no matter how hard the child finds it. St Luke's School is based on a site originally designed for a secondary school and so we have some fantastic features for a special needs school including a wide collection of animals used as part of our curriculum and therapeutic interventions as well as 6 acres used for sports, horticulture and our expanding venture into securing work opportunities on site for our pupils.  Our curriculum is diverse, broad but tailored to the needs of the children through 'pathways' with relevant outcomes.  Staff work across age groups and get to know each child well within Learning Groups, where the teacher and TA’s tend to be with the class for the majority of the school day. You would be joining a staff team of all ages (teens to sixties) and at different stages of their careers. We believe in Continued Professional Development and Learning (CPDL) in order to be a learning school, that has passion, visionary creativity and expertise but is also humble in recognising the need to work in partnerships with parents and many others to get things right.  Hard work, training and personal research, passion and a belief in the abilities of young people with disabilities would be crucial to your success at St Luke's. As a Federation, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is an essential for this post, as are references which are taken up and robustly checked. Full training is given, as are regular updates and ensurances our children are kept safe. We look forward to meeting you! Mr Stephen Hoult-Allen (Executive Headteacher) Mr Jamie Caple (Head of School) Within The Blue Tangerine family, diversity is an integral part of our history, culture, and identity. Inclusion is the way we treat and perceive all differences. We want to create an inclusive culture where all forms of diversity are seen as real value for our schools.  We do not discriminate against people regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique.
