  • Capel Manor College is London’s only Specialist College for land-based studies and an internationally renowned learning resource for all those interested in Horticulture, Animal Management, Saddlery, Arboriculture, Floristry, Garden Design, Countryside and the Environment.   
  • The College are currently looking for 2x Practical Instructors in Arboriculture & Countryside who will be responsible for the demonstration and technical instruction to students of a wide range of arboriculture subjects at Capel Manor College and at other sites as required.  We are looking for someone who can inspire students to become fully trained tree surgeons.  
  • Main Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Undertaking and lead demonstration and technical instruction of students attending Capel Manor on a range of full-time, part-time and short courses at the direction of the Head of School in Arboriculture and Countryside Management.  This would include instructing to LANTRA/NPTC standards 
  • Undertaking the assessment of students’ practical abilities according to criteria laid down by BTEC, City & Guilds and the National Vocational Qualifications standards 
  • Maintain an up-to-date schemes of work and lesson plans for each course, liaising with Arboricultural and Countryside Lecturers as to student progress and with regard to schemes of work and assessment criteria 
  • Liaising with members of the teaching staff to co-ordinate demonstration sessions and ensure the smooth transition between classroom studies and practical sessions 
  • Assisting with the supervision of students allocated to projects and provision of technical assistance and advice as required 
  • Responsible for ensuring that the health and safety of students is maintained whilst undertaking practical sessions. Including upkeep of LOLER and PUWER records
  • Assisting the Course Managers/Lecturers in visiting and assessing students’ work on work placement and assessing the workplace offered to the student for work experience 
  • Organising the provision of all equipment required for practical in Arboriculture and Countryside management  The post-holder will be required to drive a College Minibus.  It is therefore desirable that applicants have category D1 on their current driving licence.  Support will be given to applicants to undertake the appropriate test if they do not currently possess this.    
  •  Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  •  relevant arboriculture qualification to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent 
  • NPTC Certificate of Competence CS 30, CS31, CS32, CS38 and CS39 (or working towards within a given time frame) 
  • Experience of working in arboriculture/countryside
  • A current clean driving licence
