Job overview

You might just have found the perfect school…

Norfolk House School is seeking an excellent Pre-Prep Class Teacher with vision, energy and commitment to join our close-knit and supportive school community from the start of 2026.

We are a leading co-educational preparatory day school and nursery in Muswell Hill, North London, for children aged 2-11. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for someone innovative and aspiring to join a team committed to developing teaching and learning. The school takes great pride in our happy and warm environment, where each and every pupil is valued and nurtured.

With small class sizes and a well-resourced school, you will be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team who are committed and passionate about educating children. The successful candidate will be appointed as class teacher for up to 16 pupils.

Our children are our most powerful advertisement - they are polite, well-mannered, and are excited and engaged learners. Our children arrive ready to learn with strong underpinning skills and knowledge. Our daily teaching focuses on engaging literacy and mathematics teaching with the afternoons consolidating children’s learning using more open-ended provision, but with no less challenge. As well as this, pupils at Norfolk House enjoy a diverse range of opportunities to interact with the world beyond the school gates - no wonder we're often called 'the biggest little school in London'!

Our salary scale is broadly based on the outer London teachers' pay scale and we offer staff the opportunity to join the school’s attractive pension scheme. All staff are offered a free daily breakfast and lunch. On top of this, every staff member's package includes access to a discount scheme you can use for purchases from a large range of high-street and online retailers. We also offer each full-time staff member one wellbeing day per term.

At Norfolk House School we offer:
  • A nurturing and all-round academic school, unique in its context
  • Motivated, well-rounded and excited children, eager to learn
  • Excellent professional development opportunities within the school, through Bellevue Education and the Independent Schools Association
  • A team of motivated, committed and talented staff

We are seeking a teacher who will:
  • Be an excellent and experienced Teacher with QTS
  • Enjoy the challenge of a dynamic and creative curriculum
  • Bring a sense of excitement to lessons
  • Incorporate innovative use of ICT into lessons, exploiting all opportunities where appropriate to enhance Teaching and Learning
  • Understand how best to develop individual pupils’ potential
  • Be energetic and strongly self-motivated
  • Be an effective communicator and team player
  • Be very organised yet able to work flexibly
To apply, please download, complete and return the application form, complete your application via TES or contact Karen Davies at kdavies@norfolkhouseschool.org.

Norfolk House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References and full DBS disclosure will be undertaken before appointment.

Closing Date: Friday 3rd October.

Interviews planned to commence: Week Beginning 13th October.

Norfolk House School is a leading London Preparatory School and Nursery for boys and girls aged 2 -11.
The school takes great pride in its happy and warm environment, where each and every pupil is valued and supported. Pupils at Norfolk House are nurtured and guided through school life; we aim to stimulate and inspire our children and to develop their interests.
We ensure our curriculum is interesting and stimulating as well as broad and balanced. We want our pupils to be excited about lessons and fully engaged in all of school life. We strive to offer personalisation to our learning programmes; our pupils are involved in their own learning and our older children conference regularly with their teachers to set realistic learning targets. Self and peer evaluation of work are both well embedded in our curriculum and our pupils are always aware of what they need to do to achieve next steps, and are well supported in this.
