JOB DESCRIPTION 

Pre Reception Class Teacher (Maternity Cover)  in the Early Years 

TEACHING 

  1. To teach the full curriculum to a Pre Reception class, as agreed with the Deputy Head of Early Years.   
  2. To prepare detailed weekly lesson plans linking to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum at the appropriate levels as indicated by the Devonshire House Syllabus. 
  3. To show clear differentiation in planning and teaching, whilst considering the needs of all the children.  
  4. To incorporate SEN and AGT into teaching practices, making referrals to the EY SENCo and implementing any IEP’s in place. 
  5. To liaise with other teachers in parallel classes to ensure consistency across the curriculum. 
  6. To teach lessons at the times stipulated on the school timetable. 
  7. To maintain order and good discipline among pupils and safeguard their health and safety. 
  8. To help ensure pupil’s wellbeing, by providing daily Mindfulness sessions 
  9. To maintain a welcoming and friendly atmosphere within the classroom, greeting every child on arrival and keeping parents in touch with day to day matters, as necessary.  
  10. To provide opportunities within the school day for child initiated learning 
  11.  To ensure continuous provision reflects the current interests of the children in your class and that enhancements provide sufficient challenge and evoke awe and wonder.   
  12. To carry out all other duties, in and out of the classroom, including out of school activities and outings, care of the environment, display and overall care. 
  13. To follow the Key Person approach. To make regular assessments of pupils’ attainment and progress, and to maintain the Early Years Foundation Stage online learning journal (Tapestry) for each child in their class/key group.  
  14. To work with the classroom assistant in a professional manner, keeping the assistant informed about each weeks lessons, ensuring individual pupils progress is also monitored by the assistant, and that the school’s guidelines on classroom assistants is followed. 
  15. To write reports on pupils’ attainment and progress twice per year. 
  16. To attend termly parents’ evenings to discuss pupils’ progress with parents. 
  17. To attend year group parent information/curriculum evenings throughout the year.

 

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES 

  1. To attend to any other matters as detailed in the Staff Handbook. 
  2. To be familiar with and to follow guidelines as set out in the school staff policy documents, with particular reference to Child Protection and Health and Safety. 
  3. To attend all staff INSET, as required. 
  4. To be a reflective practitioner, with a creative and dynamic approach to learning, taking into account children’s interests, passions and personal learning styles.  
  5. To attend courses to develop professional skills and provide feedback to colleagues in staff meetings. 
  6. To attend weekly department and year group staff meetings to discuss curriculum, pastoral and other matters. 
  7. To contribute to the department and year group development plans and help put plans into action. 
  8. To promote a good standard of pastoral care. 
  9. To share in the pastoral duties on rota basis, e.g. break and lunchtime duties. 
  10. To supervise, or, in other ways cover, duties of a colleague on short-term absence. 
  11. To maintain order and good discipline among pupils and safeguard their health and safety. 
  12. To promote and safeguard pupils’ welfare. 
  13. To contribute to the school’s programme of extra-curricular activities, some of which occur at weekends or during evenings, such as Parents’ Evenings and School Fairs. 
  14. Periodically to review programmes of work and methods of teaching.


GENERAL 

  1. To work in a co-operative, diplomatic and flexible manner. 
  2. To foster and maintain good working relationships, acting as a courteous, friendly and business-like member of the school team. 
  3. To give clear direction to the classroom assistant, ensuring planning can be followed. 
  4. To maintain good practice in terms of staff attendance, discipline and professional attitude in the school. 
  5. To keep the Head and Deputy Head informed of any relevant matters concerning pupils or staff. 
  6. To work with the administrative staff in order to ensure the smooth running of the school on a day-to-day basis and on special occasions. 
  7. To undertake such additional duties as might be reasonably requested by the Headmistress or other authorised person.
