Our Organisation
Nelson and Colne College Group is made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning and Accrington & Rossendale College. Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels. 

The Exciting Role
A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Premises Assistant on a permanent, full time basis.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at either Nelson and Colne College or Accrington and Rossendale College but may be required to travel across sites.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • To undertake routine maintenance and minor building repair of College premises, grounds and equipment, and where necessary recommend and oversee external contractors working on site.
  • To open and close College premises in line with business requirements, ensuring that College equipment and heating is fault free and that the building is properly secured.
  • To ensure, monitor and maintain daily cleanliness of the premises in conjunction with the cleaning staff, including the replenishment of consumable items. 
  • To porter goods which are delivered to the College and move these to and / or around the premises to their point of use, including laying out classroom furniture as requested by staff via the facilities department.
  • To drive various college vehicles, including minibuses with students, subject to qualifications.
  • To ensure a safe working environment for colleagues, students and visitors working in line with all relevant Legislation and College policy & procedures.


What We Are Looking For:

  • To hold a full driver’s licence and a first aid qualification (an NVQ level 2 in cleaning would also be desirable) 
  • Ability to achieve and maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in allocated areas.
  • Ability to lead and manage own workload effectively, and take responsibility for own professional development
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as and when deemed necessary
  • Understanding of health and safety and fire regulations and procedures
  • Possess excellent communication and relationship building skills

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
