Polwhele House School, a small and highly regarded Cornish family co-educational school currently for children aged 2 to 13 years, is situated in an outstanding environment on the outskirts of Truro. The school is expanding and is applying to extend its age range for pupils up to 16 years, with Year 9 starting in September 2024.

The Governing Board are looking to appoint a Head who is proud to build on all that has been achieved so far, and with the experience, drive, and ambition to see the school succeed with its further senior school offering and its transition from Boarding to Day.

Set in a beautiful 30-acre site on the outskirts of the city, the school boasts a wonderful Pre-Preparatory School and a well-equipped purpose-built Preparatory School, in addition to a Pony Club licensed Riding School offering riding lessons for children from 3 years upwards. The school also offers a Performing Arts Scholarship programme for children aged 7 and above, to access academic studies and vocational performing arts training.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate inspirational and effective leadership qualities and an ability to contribute to the formulation of the long-term strategic development of the school.

About Polwhele House School

Polwhele House is a co-educational, independent, day school in Truro, Cornwall. Founded in 1976 as Boscawen Rose School for pupils aged 2 to 8, the school moved to its present site in 1981, when it extended the age range to 13. Since then the school has grown further and moving towards GCSE in 2027. Polwhele House School welcomed its first Year 9 class in September 2024.

Polwhele House is based in a historic manor house, within 32 acres of gardens, playing fields, park, and woodland.

Polwhele House aims to enable pupils to fulfill their academic potential and to find their special talent within a friendly, stimulating and caring environment. The school aspires to help each child to feel valued and to develop strong moral values that will support them in their future lives.

The school seeks to provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils, allowing them to discover areas of activity in which they can excel or take pleasure. In addition, it aims to foster strong moral values within a Christian framework and equip pupils in the broadest sense for the next stage of their education.

The school was inspected in January 2025 and met all standards.
