Elms School is a special day school for children with social, emotional, mental health and behavioural difficulties. Pupils in the Secondary department have learning difficulties as well.  The school has a mixed roll of 120 students between the ages of 5 and 16.

At Elms School, we aim to support pupils with learning to manage theiremotions and behaviour so that they are better able to manage independently when they leave us.  In addition, we aim to provide an excellent academic education so that they can fulfil their potential.  We therefore provide a combination of academic teaching along with various therapeutic interventions to address all their needs

The school has been assessed as Good following the Ofsted inspection in October 2017. The most recent inspection report was published in November 2017.

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable but not essential.  We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and creative individual who is a good team player to teach in our Primary department, initially with a class of Y6 pupils. The successful candidate will have a high level of emotional intelligence and resilience, a flexible approach to their work and an ability to embrace change.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage our pupils in learning and to meet their needs in lessons.  Our children have social, emotional and mental health needs and a nurturing approach and high levels of empathy are essential.  Candidates will need to have excellent behaviour management skills and some knowledge of the issues around attachment difficulties.

Visits to the school are encouraged and for more information and an application pack, please contact the school office.

Elms School is committed to safeguarding and promoting child welfare. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check, pre-employment medical clearance, good references and verification of the right to work in the UK.

Harbour School is a day, mixed, special school for children aged 4 to 16 with a combination of "significant learning" and "behaviour/emotional/social needs".

The school is set in a pleasant valley on the outskirts of Dover. Our catchment area is mainly Dover, Deal and their surrounding villages.

All children have a "statement" defining their "additional education needs". The school works closely with mainstream schools and is an integral member of three local learning groups.

Staff work in close partnership with parents and other agencies to overcome barriers to learning thus helping children to reach their full potential while enjoying a full and rewarding life at school.

All children access the full National Curriculum. The wider curriculum promotes self awareness, personal growth and prepares children for life in their local communities after leaving school.

The school sets and achieves high standards and enjoys a good reputation locally.

MISSION STATEMENT

“Learning & Achieving Together”
