Job overview

Located in the beautiful town of Tervuren, near the university city of Leuven, BSB is an independent, inclusive fee-paying international school with 1,350 students from approximately 70 countries. Students follow a British-based curriculum up to age 16. Post-16 they have a choice of three internationally recognised pre-university examination courses: English A Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or BTEC. There is an Early Childhood Centre for children aged 1-3. BSB has outstanding facilities and is the only international school in Belgium to have its own 25m indoor swimming pool. With an excellent record of academic achievement, BSB students go on to attend a wide range of top universities across the globe.

Our Primary School offers a bespoke curriculum with integrated learning themes that are inquiry based and skills driven. Whilst British-based, it is uniquely adapted to the needs of our international and multicultural student body.  At BSB, we aim to create a positive, inclusive environment for our students. This begins with taking the same approach with our staff.

We are looking for an outstanding, dynamic and enthusiastic Deputy Head (Upper Primary) to join our team in August 2017, or earlier if possible.

The successful candidate will work closely with the other Deputy Head (Lower Primary) and the Head of Primary to contribute to the strategic planning of the school as well as excellence in all areas relating to academic and pastoral care for students.

As a member of the Primary Leadership Team, the successful candidate will provide professional leadership and management of the curriculum with particular responsibility for and expertise in:

  • assessment for learning and data analysis
  • effective reporting procedures
  • technology for learning
  • e-communication
  • enrichment and extension

The Deputy Head also works closely with Secondary colleagues on cross school areas such as Professional Learning, as well as playing a valuable role in the Extended Leadership Team across the whole school.

The successful candidate will have UK and/ or international leadership and teaching experience as a Deputy Head or Assistant Head.

You will be expected to demonstrate high expectations, a flexible and resilient attitude to challenge. You will be committed to realising the vision and opportunities the school presents within a positive and supportive ethos that places learning and the learner at the centre of all that we do.

The school expects a weekly commitment to extra-curricular activities and professional development meetings. The commitment may be higher for positions of responsibility.

It should be noted that BSB is a dynamic, high energy environment: the rewards are high but so are the demands on teachers’ time and commitment.

In return, we offer:

  • enthusiastic, happy and confident children who are proud of their school and love learning
  • a learning focused environment with a team of dedicated, well qualified, committed professionals, outstanding facilities and resources
  • excellent professional development opportunities
  • a full-time, permanent contract
  • an attractive salary (BSB ELT scale – Band 10 with a minimum of €114.000 and a maximum of €129.000 gross per year, depending on years of relevant experience) and extra-legal benefits
