Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Primary Director for the Harris Federation. The successful candidate will need an extensive track record in school improvement with experience in leading multiple schools as an Executive Headteacher, or in a similar role.

You will take responsibility for overseeing primary education within the Federation and ensuring great outcomes across all our primary academies. It is important to be a strong communicator with proven strengths in engaging with, inspiring and motivating not just the school community, but the wider community.

About Primary Education at Harris:

The Harris Federation comprises of 19 primary academies plus three all-through schools. Our academies are made up of previously failing schools, plus new free schools, with every academy judged Good or Outstanding, the majority of which, 59%, are judged to be Outstanding.

According to the Education Policy Institute, Harris has been the top performing primary trust for pupil progress compared to any Multi Academy Trust or Local Authority in each of the past two years. Our group results were 76% at key Stage 2 this summer. Our academies are generally located in areas of disadvantage and all of our academies are in or close to London.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each Harris Academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. Primary at Harris comprises a strong central team of superb teaching and learning consultants, as well as a team of Executive Principals and a Regional Primary Director. Our central office is based next to East Croydon station which gives easy access to London Bridge and Victoria as well as fast access to the M25.

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and who can help create exceptional places of learning.

If you would like a discussion in confidence about the role, please call Sir Dan Moynihan, Chief Executive, on 020 8253 7777.

Harris Academies are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
