Job overview

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Primary Mathematics Specialist (to teach KS3) to be based at Outwood Academy Hasland Hall. Outwood Academy Hasland Hall is based in the historic market town of Chesterfield, and recently joined the Outwood Family of Schools in 2021. As a member of the Outwood Family we believe in putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, driven professional to join our Family of Schools. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

Shape the future of Maths. For the Trust that’s reshaping Britain’s schools.

OGAT is a high performing system Trust in the north of England – and we are looking for an outstanding candidate to help us maintain those standards at Outwood Academy Hasland Hall!

We know that the key to great outcomes in mathematics at GCSE and beyond lies in setting firm foundations in Key Stage 3. Pupils have had a turbulent few years in education and their experience of learning through these times will be varied depending on where they live and which school they attended. We want to ensure that the knowledge gaps between those who have and those who have not had the best provision do not widen any further. We hope that you are the right person to join us on that journey.

We can demonstrate an impressive record in GCSE Maths, we always achieve higher than national average on the key measures (now 5+ and 4+) even though our students enter our academies below National Average. Of this, we are extremely proud. What’s more, we are the lead in the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub, which has a national profile under the leadership of our Executive Director of Maths Kathryn Greenhalgh who also chairs the National Maths Hub Council.

You will build on this success and take us to the next level, working closely with Kathryn, the SEND teams and senior leadership at the academies we work with. We need your experience of transforming pupils’ lives through enabling them to achieve age related and beyond in a primary setting to help us further shape our transition and catch-up programme in Key Stage 3.

If you are already committed to working in a wider role, we would still welcome your application, as we will discuss a flexible approach for the right candidate.

Chances are you will be an experienced Primary Maths Lead, a Primary Mastery Specialist; perhaps an experienced Year 6 teacher with knowledge and understanding of successful intervention approaches. You will certainly possess everything required to take a strategic lead on responding to academies’ needs, which could involve anything from intervening with small groups of students, leading training on intervention, mentoring KS3 teachers to get the best out of their classes - whatever their ability to taking ownership for your own groups so others can see the great practice of a skilled primary specialist.

Needless to say, you will be an inspiring leader with real vision and passion – and the drive and determination to make things happen.

The DfE are promoting additional payments to encourage Early Career Teachers in state-funded secondary schools in England to continue teaching. These early career teachers will need to be teaching in one of the following subject areas: Chemistry, Computer Science, Maths or Physics.

It is worth noting that, in this context, the DfE are referring to Early Career Teachers who trained to teach during, or after, 2017/18.

These colleagues can check their eligibility at the DfE webpage below:
