Job overview

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Primary School Teacher to take responsibility for the academic and personal development of a designated class of children in the Junior School. This is a fulltime teaching position with responsibility for leading and inspiring pupils as Class Teacher. Working as part of a dedicated teaching team, you will be responsible for teaching Key Stage 1 & 2, as well as taking part in the wider life of our thriving international school. Teachers must be QTS qualified (or equivalent), with a minimum three years’ experience teaching in the National Curriculum for England.

Our Junior School is a non-selective and highly personalised learning environment and is a four-form entry incorporating Year 2 to Year 6, with a maximum class size of 24. The Class Teacher must ensure a safe and supportive learning environment and provide a broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating curriculum to deliver the best outcomes for all children.

This appointment is for the new school year starting in September 2024.

Key responsibilities 

  • Plan, teach, and review high-quality lessons, inspiring every child to love learning, to attain high standards, and to make excellent progress
  • Take responsibility for pastoral care, well-being, and safeguarding of pupils
  • Develop excellent relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents
  • Work closely with team members to plan, deliver, and review short and medium-term plans/schemes of learning, which are consistent across the year group
  • Collaborate effectively with teaching assistants, and to support, guide, and enable them to provide high quality support for pupils in the classroom
  • Make provision for pupils with additional needs and English language learners (in partnership with Learning Support and EAL teams)
  • Create and sustain a safe, organised and purposeful classroom environment where resources are accessible and promote children's independence
  • Promote consistent, positive behaviour at all times
  • Maintain assessment records including reporting on pupil progress to senior leaders and parents/carers
  • Take a positive, proactive part in the wider life of the school e.g. assemblies, playtime/lunchtime duties, leading an extra-curricular activity, educational visits, residential camps, preparing year group shows
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
  • Take responsibility and show commitment to continued professional development
  • Support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of our school

Person specification

Experience

  • Fully qualified teacher with QTS or equivalent (essential) 
  • Minimum three years' experience teaching the National Curriculum for England
  • Experience of working with Primary school-aged pupils, from Year 2 to Year 6
  • Experience with English language learners and/or a desire to broaden skills in EAL teaching & learning strategies
  • Experience of teaching children with additional needs within a mainstream classroom
  • Experience of using a range of assessment tools to drive pupil progress/attainment
  • Experience of leading a curriculum subject or an aspect of curriculum development
  • International School experience is desirable
