Primary School Principal

Cayman Prep & High School

Cayman Islands

For August 2023

4-18 | 1014 students | Co-educational | Day

Cayman Prep and High School is a private, co-educational Christian school with over 1,000 students ranging from Kindergarten to Year 13 and offers a British-based international curriculum leading to IGCSE / GCSE and A-level qualifications. The school is renowned for providing a stimulating learning environment in which its students become critical, creative thinkers, responsible citizens and lifelong learners. This is evident in their consistent record of outstanding academic achievements, pastoral care and wide range of extra-curricular activities.

The school is based across two campuses, a short distance from each other: its Primary School caters to 522 students, who range from KG to Year 6; the High School educates 492 students, from Years 7 to 13. Approximately half the students are Caymanian and half are from international/expatriate family backgrounds. Most students are English speaking with around 4.4% EAL students from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Both schools are heavily oversubscribed in most year groups. In addition to the Principal and 3 Primary Leadership Team staff, there are 33 teaching staff and 18 Learning Assistants.

The School’s mission is to provide a stimulating learning environment, firmly rooted in Christian principles, in which its students become critical, creative thinkers, responsible citizens and lifelong learners in an ever-changing world.

The Primary School curriculum is inspired by the revised National Curriculum of England (2014) but uniquely adapted to meet the needs of its international context and student body, as well as having a specific focus on local culture, history, geography and traditions. The Primary School aims to offer a high quality learning-focused environment where learning is irresistible, engaging and enjoyable and a setting where students make real choices, develop positive self-esteem, growth mindset and high moral values, based on the school’s Christian beliefs. As well as providing excellent provision in academic subject learning and teaching, learning in and through creative arts, sports and music is highly valued and delivered to an exceptionally high level. The school also offers an enriched and extensive extra-curricular programme.

In Kindergarten, Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) is used to provide a holistic, child-centred and exploratory curriculum.

The High School offers a UK based curriculum, which includes IGCSEs, AS and A-levels through the Cambridge International Examinations and Welsh Joint Education Committee. A Christian ethos is evident throughout the school and students are inspired to think, from the very earliest ages, about what sort of contribution they will make to the world and how they will make a difference. The school supports them in such a way as to ensure they grow into responsible, mature, and engaged members of the school community and citizens of the world.

Positive parental relationships are crucial to supporting students’ learning and the school shares information which actively engages parents in their child’s education, creating worthwhile and valuable partnerships.

Appointed by The Board of Governors, the Primary School Principal is accountable to the Director and to the Board of Governors for ensuring the educational and operational success of the Primary School. The Principal reports directly to the Director, and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the school. Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Director, the Principal will take responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning, ongoing self-evaluation, school improvement, curriculum development, leadership and management, staffing and day-to-day running of the school. The Principal provides guidance and direction for members of the Primary School staff and oversees the continued development and provision of a high quality international curriculum firmly rooted in Christian principles according to the ideals of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. The members of the Primary School’s senior leadership team report to the Primary School Principal.
