Job overview

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus opened for the first 500 students in September 2022, and is now looking for competent, experienced and, above all, passionate Primary School Principal to join the team in the 2023-2024 academic year.

We are also in the process of planning our new school campus on a beautiful 50,000 m2 site to be completed approximately by end of 2025, that will include pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, an international boarding school, and accommodation for teachers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing school on the cusp of a major turning point.

Cyprus regulations require applicants to have a university degree in Education Pedagogic recognised by KY.S.A.T.S. (The Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) and the ability to pass a background check.  

Main Responsibilities:

1.Building Equitable School Community, Vision, Mission, and Culture

Under the supervision of the Head of School and in collaboration with Secondary School Principal and Programmes Coordinators (MYP/DP coordinator, Waldorf coordinator)

  • Facilitate the development of the school Community, Vision, Mission, and Culture
  • Foster collaborative and shared leadership among faculty and staff
  • Create and sustain a reflective, equity-driven, achievement based culture of learning focused on the academic success of every student
  • Develop Primary School Development plan and implement, advocate, support, communicate, and monitor all curricular, instructional and school improvement planning in Primary school.
  • Work towards clear goals focused on student learning with measurable academic outcomes.
  • Establish a school environment that is culturally responsive and communicates high expectations for every student and adult.
  • Communicates clearly and consistently about the specific aspects of the vision, mission and culture, including progress towards goals
  • Lead and attend meetings with parents, staff and other organisations as required.
  • Communicates with transparency with parents, staff, and students in all matters


2.Professional Development 

  • Lead Teachers Professional Development Programme. 
  • Review teachers' lesson planning and classroom performance through classroom observations and personal interviews. 
  • Evaluate each teacher’s performance through regular observations and written evaluation. 
  • Lead curriculum review for the Ministry of Education of Cyprus. 
  • Supervise reporting of student progress to parents
  • Ensure a high level of students’ achievement and strive for continuous improvement responsive to students’ diverse needs 
  • Lead Professional Development of staff.


3.Managing People and Processes 

  • Clearly articulates processes and procedures for instructional support 
  • Recruit, hire, retain, and support a diverse staff of exceptional quality 
  • Create a supportive working environment which includes professional development opportunities, time and space for collaboration, and access to ongoing professional learning communities
  • Utilise a restorative and culturally responsive approach to preventing, intervening, and managing conflict among members of the school community.
  • Ensures all staff are evaluated according to district policies and procedures
  • Contribute into development of the processes related to school enrolment, re-enrolment and transition from Pre-Primary to Primary and from Primary to Secondary school. 


4.Behaviour and Safety

  • Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating school environment, rooted in mutual respect and establishes a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly. 
  • Maintain good relationships with students, personnel and parents and exercise appropriate authority. 
  • To be a positive role model for staff and students.
  • Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners. 
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/procedures. 
  • Contribute in establishing and maintaining a clear process of pastoral care for the purpose of preventing serious student problems from developing and dealing with those problems which may arise. 
  • Establish, maintain and follow a clear process of dealing with offenders and sharing information with all relevant parties. 
  • Liaise with teachers regarding individual students’ needs and producing procedures to meet those needs. 


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education/Primary Education is a must. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in a leadership position in a primary school.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire staff members.
  • A commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Fluency in English
