TCES is an independent provider of specialist education based in London supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

TCES pupils learn at one of our four schools or within our Home Learning service; Create Learning and Create Learning Primary support our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with highly differentiated and personalised holistic education programmes developed for each pupil focusing on developmental milestones. We provide a happy, safe and secure learning environment where pupils grow in independence, form positive relationships and feel valued and respected. Through the nurture approach, pupils will improve their cognitive functioning and ability to learn through better emotional regulation. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main schools.

The Role - Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SENTA) - Therapeutic Education Practitioner 

We are seeking SEN Teaching Assistants (Therapeutic Education Practitioners) to mentor and support young people in our Primary nurture provision. You will help deliver the TCES five-part curriculum to a high quality, according to the Principles of Nurture and the TCES Principles of Therapeutic Education, with a strong focus on concrete, creative and playful teaching methods. The provisions caters for Key Stage 2 pupils with very complex needs who require an intensive nurturing and therapeutic approach to enable them to access the curriculum.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:  

• Hold Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at level two or above (or equivalent qualifications).  
• Minimum of one year's experience working directly with high risk and complex pupils in a recognised social work, youth work or education setting.  
• Substantial experience of working with young people with  neurodiverse identities including those labelled with SEMH.  
• Be a positive role model.
